Every surgery you have causes scar tissue. The more scar tissue on your uterus, the less likely you are to conceive because it reduces the places for the baby to implant. Scar tissue makes additional surgeries more challenging because it's more difficult to cut through and it doesn't heal as well, so your risks for bleeding and infection are higher.

Without knowing the true amount and location of the scar tissue you have it's difficult to say what your risks really are. And whether they were talking about conception or a 3rd c-sect. So ASK your OB for details.

OBs are notorious for not telling patients the real risks of c-sections. Nor do they tell you that in most cases it is safer to VBAC or VBA2C than it is for subsequent C-sect. Even ACOGs new guidelines suggest a TOL for VBAC before scheduling a C-sect. http://www.acog.org/publications/patient_education/bp070.cfm

Before I got too concerned, I'd call the ob and ask about this. Perhaps he didn't tell you because he doesn't consider it a problem.

I have three kids...the second and third were both c-sections. At no time did anyone tell me that I should not have another child due to scar tissue. For my third child, the doctor performing the c-section just cut right along the scar tissue from the first c-section so that I would only have one scar. I would recommend that you talk directly to your ob about this. If he/she says the same thing, get a second opinion.

I would speak to the OB about this , I have only had 1 c section and was not told anything along those lines , I know that doctors in general don't like to perform more than 4 c sections on the same person , def call and speak to the OB so that you know for sure rather than having only snippets of information.

Hi! I would suggest talking to the OB that did the c-section to see what they say specifically. But, here is my experience. I have had 4 c-sections. after the 3rd, I was told there was quite a bit of scar tissue. My doctor told me the concern with the scar tissue is it can interfere with some function of your organs if it is too vast, the bladder seemed to be her biggest concern. I went on to have another child (my 5th child, 4th by section). After this last one, I was told the same thing, they won't tell me not to have any more, but they don't necessarily recommend it due to the scar tissue. When you go for your 6 week check-up, ask the doctor for his/her opinion & the risks. A good doctor will be totally upfront & honest with you. (Although I am surprised you were not made aware of this during, or immediatly following the section when your doctor was still with you.) Unless there was a dangerous amount of scar tissue, you should probably be okay to have another child if you so choose. Congratulations on your new baby!!!

I just had my third csection. Never did any of my doctors tell me at any point in between any of my kids that I shouldnt do it again. I even asked my dr this time around and he said he wouldnt recommend me having 10 kids but 1 or 2 more wouldnt be a big deal! Ask your ob at your 6 week! Good luck!

I've heard that some doctors don't like to do 3 c-sections because of the risk of complications, but of course you have options. You could look into a VBAC and/or find a new doctor who is willing to work with you. Don't let one bossy doctor make you change your plans. You can find an OB who will be more considerate. Good luck!
