Mom's Clubs for Working Moms?

Hello Everyone!

We live in the Plainfield area and have been looking for fun weekend things to do with our little girl (14 months).

I have looked into several of the Mom's Clubs in our area and it seems that many are no longer accepting new members. It also seems like the Mom's Clubs host most of the activities during the work day and/or work week.

My husband and I both work. I work closer to home and am usually home by 5:30pm. Our daughter eats dinner shortly thereafter and then goes to bed by 7. That being said there isn't really any time during the week that we could go do any parent/toddler activities. I looked into dance classes, tumbling classes, music classes,etc... but everything is early and during the week.

I tried to start my own Mom's Club that had more of a weekend vs weekday agenda but I didn't really get a lot of interest from friends and it ended up not working out.

Does anybody know of some good hosted weekend activities where parents and babies/toddlers can have some good family fun? I also still interested in some sort of Mom's Club if anybody knows of one still accepting members.

What can I do next?

There are music classes offered on the weekend (both Saturday and Sunday) in the Plainfield and Naperville areas. They are called Music Together, and are wonderful! I've been taking my daughter since she was 8 months old (she is now 2 and a half). There is a December sing along class starting just after Thanksgiving that will be running for 3 weeks, and their Winter semester starts in January. Go to www.musictogetherofnaperville.com to check it out, and you can even schedule a free demo class if you want to check it out before you commit. We LOVE it, plus its a great way to meet other moms!

Hi R.,

I too am a working mother of a 15 months old. However, I also work two Saturdays a month. I live in Plainfield as well.

Some things I have done with my son are swimming classes at the YMCA, Fun with Music which is a free class offered by the Library. Both classes where in the evening. The library class was hard to get into as you must register within 10 minutes of registration opening on-line. It is worth it.

Let me know!

Hi R.,

I don't know about a Mom's Club, but I am responding because your story sounds just like me. I have an 18-month old and recently had another baby (Oct. 25th). I work during the week and I just moved here from California so I don't know any moms in the area (so no playdates). Let me know if you have any ideas about your situation.

Thanks,

K.

I am a working mom of an almost 4 year-old son and 3.5 month old daughter. My family and I live in Yorkville. We moved here in 2006 from Memphis, TN. I work in Geneva, and I, too, have been interested in joining or starting a working moms club or group. I'm sure you know that working full-time limits your ability to meet new people and, in addition, most of the women I know are at home and don't like to schedule things on the weekend. I am interested in dialoguing with you and perhaps coming up with some ideas to start a working moms group. Circle of Moms is a fairly good resource as well as local newspapers (e.g., Kendall County Record). I may consider getting permission to post a flyer at the daycare that my children attend (Lighthouse in Yorkville).

Take care, and I hope to hear from you.

Hi R.,

I feel your pain. I am a transplant from Ohio and I have 2 boys 3 and 20 mos. I also work full-time and like you, by the time I get home, get dinner, and clean up it is time for bed. That doesn't leave much time during the week to do any activities. We live in the Montgomery-Owsego area. We do have a membership at the Children's Museum in Dupage County downtown Naperville. My little ones love it. They have lots of activities for little ones. I look for other activities at the local YMCA, library, and anything going on in the area that might be seasonal such as the local farm market has a petting zoo and corn maze every year during the fall. We also go to the park a lot so they can play, take walks around the neighborhood, and play outside with their own toys and bikes. Unfortunately, I don't know of any mom groups for working moms. I was asked by a lady once at church to join a group until she found out that I worked (they meet on Tuesday mornings at 9:30am).

I hope this helps,
L.
