I have a 6 mth old daughter who has some developmental problems... she has not been fully diagnoised but is starting to recieve in-home therepy and I plan on during that till she is about a yr old and then consider a special needs daycare. I am looking for other moms for some emotional support. I am handling it very well but would like to make some new friends with parents of special needs children so I can have someone to look to for hope and advice.

And also thanks for the advice with my 5 yr old... I also asked the doc for some help and she gave us some printouts on behavior problems and disipline.

So What Happened?

I had forgotten about this site having to take care of both my children especially my daughter. I am sorry to say that Haileigh Christine passed away on Feburary 19, 2007 at 2:51 pm she was 9 mths and 7 days old. I do not need any sorrow because I know she is where she is meant to be... I know this because I put my faith in GOD and he needed her more then I did.

Hi S.. I am in Shreveport, LA and have a 7 year old son with Asperger's Syndrome (or autism spectrum disorder). We just started therapy last week. He gets therapy through the school system, but it's not really good enough and we needed something that would include the whole family. Anyway, if you just need some support, you can message me anytime! This year I graduated from the Partners in Policymaking class here offered by the Developmental Disabilities Council and have made some wonderful contacts with support needs and such. Also, I know how important it is to get to know others who have been through what you are going through and can understand whats happening. I love my friends and family, but until they have to raise a child with a disability, it will be imposible for them to completly understand what we are going through! Anyway, I'm here if you need me!

Hi. I found out my daughter was special needs when she was 3 months old. Although it all started at 6 weeks old when she was admitted with Salamanella. Now she has been diagnosed with Bifrontal Polymicrogyria Foveolar Hypoplasia along with other things. She also has been put in contacts because she is very visually impaired. She now sees 33 Dr's at Texas Children's Hospital and gets all of ECI services at home until she is 3 then we will start going to the rehad center that eci is based out of. If your child is in eci thay are also a great support system and have alot of resource information. Please let me know how things turn out with your baby. If you need some one to chat with let me know.

Hi S.,
My name is LaKeisha and I have a 2yr. old that has been diagnosis with celebral palsy, developmental delays and etc. He was premature born at 30wks. weighing 2lbs. 4oz., staying in the hospital 44 days, this was a nightmare for me because he was my baby boy that I have longed for and seeing him helpless made me miserable, but I was there for him. He had 2 blood transfusions, eye surgery, hip surgery because he's muscles were not fully developed so they put extentions in his legs so he can grow normally, I live in northern Louisiana and have to travel to New Orleans, Louisiana on a regular basis, plus
I work and have 3 girls, I never put my son in daycare, he always went to work with me. I have therapy at home once a week and therapy at a therapy center once a week also, everyone tells me I need to let him go to school or daycare but I can't seem to let him go, I feel it's my responsibility to take care of him, I haven't even let my mother-n-law keep him, I feel noone can handle him like I can. When I go place and people ask me how old he is because his hair is cut, I say two and they look at him like a charity case and I feel that's how people are going to see him at school and daycare. My son is two and look like is 9mths old, he is just starting to grow and only weight 23lbs and not walking nor crawling, he can barely hold his head up. It's hard but I'm trying to deal with it. You say u need someone to talk too I do too, my husband thinks its time have another child but I don't think I'm ready but he don't want to hear that. In the last 3 1/2yrs my body has been through alot, before my son I lost a son, I was 8mths pregnant with tumors which cause my baby to come out stillborn, so I can really use u as a friend too, S. I know prayer can do wonders because that's the only thing that kept me from losing my mind, my husband thought that having another child was the answer but it wasn't, it made me hurt and I'm still hurting because I look at my son and think that it's all my fault that he's like this, my body was not completly healed from the tumor suctions and my lose. I hope I lifted your spirits because you are not in this alone.

Hi S., I was looking through the special need forum and came across your request you put on here about 6 months ago regarding your daughter that has some developmental problems. I do hope she is doing ok ,and all is going well.
The reason I am contacting you is I am wondering if you are still going to be looking for a daycare? I am watching my 7 month old grandaughter, and I have also been looking to watch a special need child. I have a very compassionate heart for these children, and feel it is meant for me to be with these kiddos...I worked for the public schools as a special ed assistant for three years in a servere and profound classroom, and since leaving the position I have wanted so much to be able to watch children in my home. I have thought about starting a in home daycare for special need kids, but have not had much luck....Anyway, please contact me with your thoughts. Hope to hear from you soon...Take care...J.

Hi S.

I don't normally respond to these requests, but yours was very familiar. I have a special needs baby as well, we learned that when she was about 6 months old.

I wish I had someone to talk to when I was a new mommy with a special needs child...It was very unnerving.

I would love to help in any way I can. It means so much to know that you are not alone in trying times like these.
