Mole Removal

I have a mole that my GP thinks should be removed. It has not been biopsied but it is larger and irregularly colored. I have had this mole my whole life and it has never changed in appearance, so I have resisted taking it off. But now my husband is on the bandwagon so I may just do it. Anyone know a good dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon who can do this without leaving too hideous a scar? (The mole is on my shoulder). Thanks!

I might not have the spelling right but Jonith Breadon is an amazing derm on Lincoln Park. Also, she discuss options and will not recommend removal unless she thinks it's necessary.

I live the the suburbs now so haven't seen her in a couple years but I've been to see her a couple times and my husband went regularly as he has moles all over his back.

Good Luck!

Hi A.,
I used to work for a fabulous dermatologist/cosmetic surgeon. Her name is Dr. Collette Ara-Honore. She works at the Advocate Health Center and also has an office on West Belmont. She is a great person and a wonderful doctor.
Good Luck,
N.

Dr. Clarence Brown (Rush Derm. Office) is great. He removed a 1 cm cyst from my cheek and there is barely a scar. In fact, all the doctors in his practice are extremely competent, thorough and professional. I also believe that you should consult a dermatologist about the mole to determine whether to remove it. My experience showed that several GP's were dismissive of the cyst on my cheek, which I had for over a decade, and it was only until I found Dr. Brown that he accurately diagnosed it and recommended removing it.

My dermatologist is Dr. Mario LaCouture at Northwestern. To find out more info you can go to nmh.org and type his name is the physician finder. I had a mole on my nose (sounds like a witch but not that bad) that he removed and you could not even tell that he did anything. He does a wonderful job. Hope that helps and good luck.

I go to Dermatology Associates. They have offices in Barrington and Crystal Lake. ###-###-#### I usually see Dr. VanDam, my son has gone to Dr. Johnson. It takes awhile to get an appointment, I think that is usual with a good derm.
I ahve had moles removed- it really isn't a big deal. The hardest part is the numbing medicine.

I have also been a patient of Dr. Jonith Breadon and love her! Her tel # is ###-###-####. Her office used to be at 2551 N. Clark St, but I believe that she is about to move, or has just recently moved to a new location (still in the local Lincoln Park area).
Good luck!

Hi A... running out the door here.. but wanted to share that my daughter (who is now 20 years old..) had a large birthmark on her arm and her doctor recommended it be removed.. I think if your GP says it should be removed, I would follow the advice.. just becuz of its size and color.. you are more at risk for it to become cancerous as you get older.. we had an excellent plastic surgeon.. gee.. its been so long.. I think it may have been a Dr. Taurus.. don't quote me on that.. he was an older guy.. I bet he is out of practice.. he was in Arlington Heights.. I don't know if you have to stay within a certain health network .. If it is larger and in a visible spot on your body.. I would recommend a plastic surgeon.. that is their expertise.. and they understand about scarring and all..
take care and good luck!

I had a mole removed about 9 months after my daughter was born. It contained cancer. I don;t rember the Doc'a name who did it but it was quick. i don;t normally scar so there is nothing left of the procedure. I had that mole all my life as well but the cells collect the affects from the UV rays differently. The scarring depends on your boby and how it handles it. I would not worry about the scarring because if it is bad you will have way procedures and scarring if you let it go!!! I have also had a CV cancer scare so I'm sorry if I sound callous about this. It's really a minor procedure the site is sore for about a week if I remember right.
