MMR Vaccination

You might consider contacting a naturopath. The naturopath I see in Kirkland (right near downtown) was a guest speaker at my mom's group when my daughter was a newborn (which is how I met her and became a patient!). She had a lot of great information about immunizations and did offer them (not sure which ones) at individual doses, or on a different (less aggressive) schedule.

One of the moms in my Magnolia moms group has been researching this as well. Here is what she found:

The Ballard Pediatrics office is going to start to stock the individual vaccines which is a great local resource. http://www.ballardpediatrics.com/

There is a pharmacy in New Jersey that stocks the vaccines and will ship them overnight to you in a refrigerated cooler. (this is what our doctor’s office is doing for the time being) They will keep for up to a year in the fridge. The pharmacy is Hopewell Pharmacy and their numbers are ###-###-####-phone and ###-###-####-fax. They need a doctor’s prescription faxed to them in order for them to send out the vaccine. Shipping and handling costs are $25-35.

Here is a breakdown of one “recommended” schedule and approximate costs for each vaccine:

15 months-Measles- $39
27 months-Rubella-$39
30 months-Mumps- $49

As for schedule, I’ve read a lot of different variations ranging from 1-2 months between shot to the above schedule.

Your doctor can order the individual vaccines in packets of 10, so you might mention this to them. They keep for up to a year and with all the recent press (TIME magazine) I’m sure there will be other parents in the practice wanting to do this.

Hope that helps!! The MMR shot scares me. My oldest son had a febrile seizure 7 days after his MMR when he was 12 mos old. They can't accurately say that it was the MMR shot that caused the seizure, but it was definitely a fever (due to the side effects of the shot) that spiked quickly that caused the seizure. Scariest thing I ever had to go through as a mom so far.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants to separate the shots. Have you read Dr. Robert Sears's book, "The Vaccine Book" that came out in October of last year? He's full of great information on spreading out the vaccines. We belong to Group Health, and it has never been a problem to get single doses. I just call ahead to make an appointment for the injection room and tell them specifically that I want a single Measles, Mumps, or Rubella shot. I did this with my toddler and am having only two vaccines given at a time to my newborn. Good luck to you!

I would recommend you go to the Community Health Center of Snohomish County: http://www.chcsno.org/Default.ashx?p=1000. They do offer separate MMR shots (I called recently to confirm). You will probably need to let them know in advance so they can order it for you. They don't bill insurance. It will run about $80 for each shot. You can submit the receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement later.

I was able to do them separately for one of my daughters. However, if you're worried about Thimerosol, it's no longer in the MMR shot. You can even ask your doctor if Thimerosol is in it. (Thimerosol is 50% mercury and has caused Autism contrary to what the MDs have been saying).

You also have to make sure that the flu shots and the others suhc as Hep B no longer contain Thimerosol as well. There are still shots they use it, however, parents who know the MMR shot is what gave their children autism are trying to fight back.

Can anyone tell me why, the medical profession, who supposedly does no harm puts mercury in amalgam fillings and mercury in shots?
