Mirena User/concerns....

I stink at taking a pill and previously used the patch as my birth control, so after the birth of my son in 1/09-Mirena seemed the best choice. I had some trouble with pain, bleeding right after insertion, but otherwise it's been pretty good. I suffer from endometreosis and the steady stream of hormones is supposed to be good for keeping it at bay, also still breastfeeding (supposed to be a benefit). Overtime, my period has pretty much disappeared and just some spotting about every 2 months. I still get some cramps and my monthly migraine, but no terrible PMS symptoms.

I had my yearly pap about 2 months ago and since I've started bleeding again, having a period, spotting, terrible cramping, severe migraines, a bladder infection, terrible gas, diarrhea, and pain with intercourse. Everytime we have intercourse, I seem to start a cycle of bleeding again, old blood. I'm starting to wonder if this is all related to the Mirena and wondering what other Mom's who've used have experienced or regretted or not regretted using it. I am not ready for baby number two and don't really like the other birth control options, but I am concerned about what I am doing to my body. Also trying to lose weight and having a hell of a time even dropping a pound....thoughts?

What can I do next?

I think you should contact your doctor and talk to them......just to make sure everything is O.K......it's better to be safe than sorry......

And life is too short to go through the misery you are going through right now.....get yourself checked out to make sure it's all as it should be...

Good Luck and take care.

I had a very terrible time with my mirena. kept it for 2 years, because i am like you, i don't like the other options either. My husband finally convinced me to have it taken out - for some of your same problems, pain during intercourse, bad cramping and inability to lose weight. I actually lost about 15 lbs within the 6 weeks from my last sons birth to getting the mirena, and have since then gained about 40 - and i have always been very thin. I know others who love it and have gotten it a second time. it is nice to not have to worry about pregnancy. I had mine taken out 2 months ago and am thinking my hormones are out of whack from the new pill i am taking, causing me to fear i may be expecting. the pill is always scary, so many people become pregnate on it. ... I think they all suck... oh, i have lost about 5 lbs since getting it out though.. but if i have another child there will be more weight gain instead of weight loss...

I had a lot of the same issues with mirena-I went with mirena last time because my doc used those two magic words "no period" and he was right, I didn't have one, I just bled on any given day averaging out to 50% of the time. - there is another option though.
Paraguard is a hormone free IUD, I've been on that one before and loved it. I was like not being on B/C at all. It's made of copper and reacts with your body chemistry to make your uterus inhospitable to a pregnancy. Is also good for up to 10 yrs.

I have the Mirena and LOVE it, I've had it for 2 years, I even lost weight I was 134 (4 foot 10 inches tall) and Now I am at 105.
But since all this started AFTER the pap, I wonder if the doc moved it? I'd go back to check the placement of the Mirena

I am too much of a wimp to try mirena b/e of all the side effects that you have been having i prefer taking the pill and i always remembered to take it. But i advise you to got to your MD/ OBGYN about trying other methods of birth control. You have to take care of your health not only for yourself but for the family that you have. So please visit your MD...hope i helped. Feel better and God bless

You should call your doctor and see if maybe Mirena isn't right for you anymore. There are too many things going on with your body and you should probably consider using a different birth control. I have Mirena and a few weeks ago I had to call the advice nurse in regards to bleeding for over a week and I had told her that I had Mirena and she told me something that had to do with hormones and that maybe Mirena wasn't for my body. Make an appointment.
