Milk Intolerance, Pediasure Replacement?

My 2 1/2 yo cannot drink milk when she does she is horribly constipated sometimes going 5 days without a bm. When she does have one it is an awful sceaming experience, thus hindering potty training because she is afraid to go to the bathroom for fear of the pain. I have tried soy milk and it causes her to get very runny bm's. We live in a very small town and cannot find rice milk. I have started her on pediasure and her bms are softer and more regular, it is quite expensive and high in sugar but it helps her so we buy it. Is this a wise idea or is pediasure only for weight gain? She is only is 25 percentile so she is not big by any means.

What can I do next?

Poor child - I really feel for her, and for you. The sugar would concern me. Pediasure is usually for weight gain but it has emulsifiers in it so a lot of kids can't digest it so well anyway. You could switch her to Reliv NOW for Kids, a comprehensive and balanced supplement that will restore her intestinal balance as well as provide her with great nutrition without all that sugar. You can buy it on line and have it shipped to you, but you need to work with a trained distributor/customer care person for the first order to be sure you get support. You can do that on the phone or on line. Reliv products have been developed and manufactured by the leading food scientist in the US who was on the team that developed the first non-dairy infant formula. The company has received many honors for its business ethics and its management, and they have a humanitarian foundation that feeds over 40,000 kids a day all over the world. The team of food scientists and MDs is outstanding and trustworthy, and many of the products have had clinical trials. I'd be happy to help you get more info.

How about just skip the milk? My kids are 8, 5, and 4 and don't drink milk. I use it to bake with or cook if a recipe calls for it, they use almond milk if they have cereal, otherwise we are a cows milk free family. And all my kids are healthy, active ,with no adverse affects. Cows milk is for baby cows.... most people have problems with it even if its not an obvious issue like your daughter is having.

Skip the milk, as long as she has a healthy diet she's just fine! Give her a good daily multivitamin if you are still unsure. Otherwise she doesnt NEED milk.

My daughter can't have milk either, and I finally realized that I can't drink it either! It only took 38 years of me drinking gallons of it a week to figure that out! We have since switched to almond milk, but I still cook with cow's milk. It seems to be available almost everywhere. I live in a smallish town and Walmart carries it, as well as WinnDixie. You can get it in the milk refrigerated aisle and also sometimes warm in the juice aisle. Many kids who are sensitive to milk are also sensitive to soy (we are), so almond milk is better anyway.

Is it lactose intolerance? My daughter is lactose intolerant and I found a product that revolutionized our lives! My husband takes the adult version, and I get the children's chewable for my daughter. You take one pill with breakfast and you are good to go for 24 hours. The children's chewable is a little harder to find, but Publix orders it for myby the case and I buy it one or two boxes at a time, you can even print coupons from their website.

Go to the local grocery store where you shop or if you have WalMart and ask them if they can order it for you and let you buy a case at a time or if they would stock it in the shelves. You would be surprised by how many children have to have rice milk and also adults. My granddaughter is 2 1/2 and rice milk is all she can have and after talking to a manager the WalMart carries it near our home. I would not use pediasure due to the large amount of sugar.
