The all the recalls lately on children's medication, I am curious how that affects generic/store brand medicines similar to name brands. For example, I have the Walmart brand for Zyrtec and Kroger brand for Children's Tylenol. Do I need to get rid of those as well?

The recall is only for products made by McNeil pharmaceuticals - the manufacturer's name will be on both the cardboard packaging and the label on the bottle.

Of course, we had many of the products listed on their website, but they only show NDC numbers on the site, not lot numbers (which are the real issue).

Store brands are OK, BUT GENERICS ARE NOT THE SAME AS BRANDED medications - I've worked in the pharmaceutical industry for a long time, and they are not directly equivalent. So, if you see a difference in how well they work, I'd ask your pediatrician what they recommend.

We're likely going to switch to an Rx product for our daughter's allergies.

No, the store brands are fine. I read an article somewhere today that said that if you have been told to give you child the medicines, then purchase the store brands as they are not affected and you should make sure your child gets the medication needed. Only the McNeil items are affected.

Look on the side of the box to see who the producer is. If its not McNeil then you don't have to worry, for this recall...

No -it's just the brands listed. If a recall includes store brands, they list that on the recall.

Nope, the generics are basically the only meds you can still use. ^_^

I give my daughter Zyrtec as well, but usually but the generic as it is cheaper. This was the first time I bought the name brand Zyrtec (figures), so I just had to go out and buy the generic again today. My Walgreens had the generic Zyrtec 2 for $8. A big savings.

NO... but you can call the McNeil number to be sure.

Most generic drugs are made by one manufacturer.. not the same company that makes the name brand.

I personally have not thrown out my name brand childrens motrin.. the kids have been taking it as needed for several months with no problems..
