I had both of my kids there and really loved the experience both times. I delivered both via c-section. My daughter (2008) ended up in the NICU with breathing problems. I was scared out of my wits. The NICU nurses were extremely patient with me when I called the NICU bawling on more than one occasion. They never found the cause of my daughter's problems, but she was there for 7 days. She's totally healthy now. I was happy with most of the NICU nurses (one I wasn't as crazy about). They did their best to mix in my breast milk with the formula they fed her (they had to feed her some formula so they could measure exactly how much she was eating, and because after I was discharged, I couldn't breastfeed around-the-clock).

With my son (born March 2010), I was just as happy with the delivery. The newborn nurses were wonderful, and the lactation consultant was great. The L&D rooms are very comfortable and clean. Something about the hardwood floors makes it seem cozy. I'd highly recommend Lewisville Medical Center.

C.,

I had my first daughter there in 05 and loved the hospital. I enjoyed that they let me whole family come in during my labor and hang out with me. Then at time of delivery they let two people stay in the room after that they let my fam come back in. It was a room packed with like 10 people. The also let my husband and mom and dad stay after visiting hours as long as we were all quite. I had to be induced and had Dr. Tovar whose office was down the street. I was induced at 5am and yes did receive the epidural and it was a breeze and no pain at all. I enjoyed my experience so much that is 2007 I delivered my second daughter there and again had to be induced. This birth was more private with just my husband and my step kids and my daughter and it again was another enjoyable experience. Of course I did not like the food and I would always have my husband go pick up food from Grandy's. But love it and now I am on the third and if I was in Texas that is where I would deliever. Good luck!

Hi C., I actually delivered my son at this hospital in 2009 and had a very positive experience. I'm actually due again in Feb. 2011 and will also have this baby there as well. Everyone my husband & I encountered were very friendly & kind. Even friends that visited us complimented on how friendly the staff was. I've also had to go to the ER twice in the 10+ years we've lived in Lewisville and didn't have a bad experience there either. My most recent visit involved me being admitted for 4 day for a bladder & kidney infection. I was put on the maternity floor because it was early in my pregnancy. Again, no issues, and my husband is a bit picky so if he didn't feel like something was being done to make me comfortable, etc. then he would speak up. I understand that no 2 people can have the same experience so my advice to you is to take a tour of the materinity floor. I know they do this at least 1 day a week in the evening so call the hospital to find out. Good luck to you & congrats on your upcoming arrival! :-)

I delivered both of my boys there (2006 and 2009). I really loved everything about both my experiences there. With my first son we had feeding issue (spit up tons, very scary) and I would call the nursery and they would come running to help me out. With my second he had a heart mumur in utero and they ran an EKG and watched him closely (covered all the bases) and luckily it really was nothing. The food is good. I would suggest going a touring and even taking a few classes there to get a better feel for it. But I can't say enough about that hospital.

I delivered both my boys there (they are 3 years, and almost 1). I had a good experience both times. Nurses were very friendly and helpful, and so were the anesthesiologists (sp?). I did have both c/s. The first one was unplanned, b/c his head got stuck and caused labor to stop. The 2nd was planned, my choice. I don't regret having c/s at all. The reason I even mention it is b/c I have a friend who used to work in the nursery there and said c/s are very common there (but I think that's true with a lot of hospitals now, and a lot depends on your dr).

I planned on BFing, both times. I was not pressured at all to use formula. A lactation consultant came by each day I was there to see if I needed any help. Even though I had c/s's, I was able to BF as soon as I got back to the recovery room, and a nurse was right there to help if I needed it. I BF'd my ODS til he was 1 year, and so far my LO is still BFing with no plans to stop any time soon (he will be 1 on Thursday!).

Almost forgot to mention...During my first when I labored, I had family there (DH, parents, inlaws) and it was no problem. They were allowed to wait in my room while I was in my emergency c/s. The 2nd time was planned, and again, they were all there, in addition to my ODS. It was important to me to have him there, and it was no problem at all!! I also had Dr Tovar.

I also had my baby in room with me both times. If my baby was in the nursery, my DH was right there. I had a good experience both times I delivered there. However, I will say that I do not prefer that hospital for anything else. I like my OB and that's where he delivers, so that's where we went. I am considering changing hospitals whenever we have another baby, but only b/c I'm *considering* using a mid-wife next time (still not sure about this).

I didn't deliver there. Actually, I made sure to find a Dr., so I wouldn't deliver there. I have lived in the Lewisville(ish) area my whole life. I have never once had a positive experience, at that hospital. My sister did deliver there and had a terrible experience.

I just delivered my daughter, c-section, in April. I had a very good experience, not sure I could say anything I really didn't like about it.

Stay at home. Healthier and safer for you and the baby.

Lisa

P.S.

I am a former NICU Respiratory Therapist and now a homebirth midwife. I have 3 children. The last 2 were born at home. Research has proven over and over again that for healthy mothers it is safer and healthier to give birth at home with a midwife. I have attended thousands of deliveries in and out of the hospital and the only time I have seen a mother and baby die due to complications in child birth was at the hospital. The mother died due to the hospital interventions. If they had left her alone she would probably be alive today. The baby died due to hospital neglect. Again, if he had been born at home he would probably be alive today.

Emergencies in birth just don't happen. There are events that lead up to needing a c-section. Midwives are trained to recognize when these events maybe occuring and at that time we go into the hospital. Even in the hospital c-sections just don't happen. There is prep time involved. The majority of hospitals do not even have the staff available 24 hours a day to do a c-section so when a c-section is going to occur, if it is at night, the staff has to be called in and they have about 20 minutes to get there.

It is very rare for something catastrophic to happen at home during birth. Catastrophic events happen in the hospital more often because of all the interventions done that are not needed and because there are women in the hospital that have health problems. I have never attended a birth outside of the hospital where we needed to call 911. If we need to go to the hospital we get in the car and drive.

Birth is a normal part of life. It is not a life or death situation. When bad things happen it is because the woman or baby was not healthy to begin with and they would have already been risked out of home birth anyway.

Some great books to read are, Pushed by Jennifer Block and The thinking woman's guide to better birth by Henci Goer.

The women that choose to give birth at home are very educated about their choices and the birth process and the midwives that take care of these women are experts in normal pregnancy and birth.

Wow! Okay, here it goes. I delivered my 2nd baby there and had a HORRIBLE experience. My ob-gyn (who was on her way to the hospital) gave the go-ahead for them to give me my epidural. Well, since it was 2:00 in the morning, there was only ONE anastesiologist at the hospital, and some other lucky woman got there before me. Well, I went to 9 cm. dialated with NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was SCREAMING for my epidural and in devastating pain. They finally told me they could give me something to "take the edge off," but that I was too far along for an epidural. So I agreed to "take the edge off," and they gave me Staydol, which is a narcotic. Well, they NEVER told me that it might harm my baby, and sure enough when he was born, he didn't breathe for 20 or 25 seconds and he was in NICU overnight. I was so furious!!!!!!!! So, for my 3rd baby, I changed ob-gyn's so I would be able to deliver at Baylor Grapevine. I switched to Dr. Troy New, who is amazing! His office is right there at Baylor Grapevine Hopsital. I also arranged to be induced, because when you are induced, you are guaranteed an anastesiologist, which means I had my epidural! Definately go with Baylor Grapevine. And, definately don't listen to what momof3girls said!! You need to be at a hospital in case something God forbid goes wrong!
