I have been having lower back pain since the birth of my daughter 11 years ago. I am now seeing a physical therapist to help with the pain. I know that I have a bulging disc in the L4, L5 and S1 area. I am now having pain in the back of my knees and into my feet. I am not for sure if anyone has experieced anything lilke this and if so what did you do for the pain. I can hardly bend at the knees (squat) for any given time or my legs feel weak and are very painful until I stretch them out slowly. I feel like a old lady. I just turned 40 and maybe that is the problem, turning 40 and going down hill quickly. Ha!! I would love to get any advice on what to do or where to go. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I have been going to a chiropractor for several years now. Did wonders for me during my pregnancy. Dr. Daniel Rowe, he is on Western just North of Memorial. He takes most insurance, if not yours they have a cash plan that is very reasonable. If you have any other questions I will be happy to answer. Easter Blessings!

Hi Jennifer,

I can certainly relate to back pain. I've had my own set of problems for the past 15 yrs. It didn't help when I gave birth to 9 and 10 pound boys. (not at the same time :-)). I recommend Dr. Troy Jackson. He's a chiropractor in Edmond (between 33rd and Memorial off Boulevard). He works off referrals only. I never had any luck with physical therapy. Hope you get better...it sucks feeling way older than you are.

Jennifer,
The chiropractic office I go to is in Edmond. If you are interested let me know and I will give you the number. Adjustments do wonders for the body!!! I've been going to one my entire life. Chiropractic care cured my daughters jaundice when she was born.

I also had a bulging disk between L4 and L5 as well as one between L5 and S1. I did 3 rounds of epidural steroid injections. They work really well on some people--I would try that if you haven't already. I ended up having a laminectomy done and it took the pain away immediately. I noticed a difference hours after surgery.

Your bulging disc could be pinching the nerves around them which could affect the nerves and muscles in your legs. I am 35 years old and suffer from severe degenerative disc disease and suffered from 3 herniated disc from a slip & fall injury 2 years ago. I underwent a 2 level fusion at L3-L4 and L4-L5. Unfortunately, the surgery did not help. I live with severe back & leg pain daily. I have nerve damage in both legs. I would recommend seeing a spine specialist that can recommend therapy to relieve any pinched nerves. I would not recommend surgery until all forms of conservative treatment has been exhausted. When it comes to back surgery it is a 50-50 chance of being successful. I underwent the surgery because my disc were so herniated that all the fluid in the center was gone.
