We live in Keller and are looking for a new pediatrician. Our 2 year old son has quite a bit of developmental delays and we will no longer vaccinate him due to previous bad reactions. We have decided that we are at least going to delay our 2 month old son's vaccines. I would like a pediatrician that open to delaying vaccines and that possibly has some depth of knowledge regarding developmental delays/autism. Thanks sooooo much!

As mentioned on CNN last night, this website has lots of useful information regarding alternative schedules and research on vaccine safety. I thought you might find it helpful--the organization is Generation Rescue:

They are a wealth of resource re: autism, learning disabilities, delays, etc. They may refer you to some peds who are knowledgable about autism issues. Our own daughter is mentally delayed ("slow learner") & these folks have been very helpful. Good Luck, K.

Hi C., I'm in sort of the same boat you're in. My 7 yr old was diagnosed with autism last year and we're discovering a whole new world and obstacles. I am now in the process of taking him to a DAN! dr. (Defeat Autism Now!) They're regular pediatricians but have special training in autism and are VERY open to alternative treatments. I also have a 1 yr old who has had all his vaccines except the MMR which I refused. I would advise on getting your child screening immediately. Also, if that is what it turns out to be then I would also suggest buying Jenny McCarthy's book about her autistic son whom she has cured! It's a great inspiration and a load of resources about delayed vaccines and such. Make an appt. with Dr. Mary Ann Block, ###-###-####, she's in Hurst and the website is www.blockcenter.com. Another thing that seems to be very popular and effective is changing the diet to GF/CF (Gluten free/Casein free). There's something about these kids not being able to process the proteins from these foods. I'm still doing my research and learning about that myself before I make the change. Good luck! D.

It looks like there is already some great advice, but I thought I would add my 2 cents! My son (the middle child of three) has autism. We no longer use a "regular" pediatrician. If I had listened to any of our former doctors, we would still be searching for a diagnosis and a way to help my son. We now use Dr. Mary Ann Block. The difference is astounding! We no longer carry health insurance but have a disocunt program with Care Now facilities that we use when one of the kids get sick. (And their longer hours work really well with my work schedule!) I do not know if they give vaccinations, but I feel like this way I have a lot more control and I can always check with Dr. Block for other questions. I wish you the best of luck in your search and if you have any questions or just need some support for your journey, feel free to email me at ____@____.com.

We use the University of Texas Pediatrics Group, 855 Montgomery St, Fort Worth Texas. We've been using them since our oldest was born. She is a 25 weeker who came home on oxygen and several. I think there are about 5-6 D.O./MD in the group. We've seen at least 3 of them and they all know all three of our children very well. They are in downtown fort worth. They have been very open with our concerns and wishes. Their number is ###-###-####

My pediatrician seems to be open to delaying vaccines. She gave me the schedule and her recommendations and let me decide. I don't know if I had decided not to vaccinate at all how she would respond, but I feel that she really was ok with whatever my decision was. One of her sons has severe diabetes so she knows about being concerned for you child's wellbeing. I also live in Keller but she is in Flower Mound. It is about a 30 minute drive. But I have been completely happy with her. She takes time to answer my questions and seems to listen to my input as well. 18 and Under MD, Debra Naylor, www.18andundermmd.com, ###-###-####. Tell her B. Reid sent you. And good luck.

Unfortunately these pediatricians are hard to find. Please do your research on this. My son is autistic. Autism isn't readily taught in med school. After I told my pediatrician (I diagnosed him) I also stopped vaccinating. One it 96 boys is autistic, it is a very difficult life for them and us as parents. I've heard Dr. Sears book on Vaccines is fair and balanced. The generationrescue website will give you info on vaccines but it is anti-vaccine so I wouldn't say it is balanced. Contact ECI for help, read all you can.

Im so proud of you for standing up for your childrens health. I know what you are going through is not easy.Im a therapist and I work with children with autism and learing disabilites.
When my son came along 18months ago I was faced with the same challenge when he had a reaction to vaccines. Our pediatrican dosn't know much about autism but she allows me to choose when and what Vaccinces he gets. Dr. Crawford is by the Fort Worth Zoo and they are open 7 days a week and evenings but you must be refered, you can use my name if that is the road you choose to go down. My son also goes to a Dr in Grapevine, his name is Dr. Kotsanis and his daughter has a form of autism, so he is very knowledgable. He can provide service for reversing the effect of damage done by vaccinces. He has change my son's life just by diet change and supplements. The down side is he dosn't take insurance. But if you have any questions you can call and talk with the nurse, they are very helpful. I really liked the book " The vaccine Book" by Robert Sears he has been studing vaccinnes for 13 years so he has lot of good information. Good Luck

My cousin's son is autistic so with her next child she did one vaccine per month rather than the typical schedule. So that's what we're doing with our baby from now on.

I've discussed this with our Pedi, and he's agreed to do it this way. However, he's not holistic and was concerned about us doing vaccines this way b'c he thought it was traumatizing to do it this way (to bring baby into office to get shots that regularly--i.e. one shot per month). But, he said he'll do whatever we prefer. His name is Dr David Nichols, is in Southlake, and so far we like him. I'm not sure about his knowledge on autism though b'c we've only been using him for about a year.

Try Dr Zwernnemann (spelling?) She is in the Tom thumb pediatricians office ( believe it is a cook childrens facility but I could be wrong).
Try asking your chiropractor for a pediatrician that is more wholistic. Most really try to follow the AAP's recommendation on vaccines, some will stretch them out if given, and worry about liabilities to themselves and the children they care for if not immunized.
I understand the huge scare out there today for autism and I remember when kids had polio and rubella as well. Both are scary and it is hard for parents to know what to do. Study well researched and evidenced documentation to help you decide how to approach this. There is a lot of scary opinions out there that are given as if they were gospel, look for the evidence to help you decide what to do.
