Looking for a Way to Make Friends

I am new to the San Antonio Area and only have a couple of friends that I met where I live. I am looking to meet other moms that have kids in the same age range for playdates. I am also looking for folks that I can make friends. I am used to making friends at work, but now that I am at home and we have taken a major pay cut, I don't have the ability to take the kids to the local attractions if it costs money. Basically, I am looking for a way to make friends and get out of the house. Can anyone help or be interested in scheduling a playdate?

What can I do next?

Hi D.,

We have only lived here for almost a year and I have yet to meet many people. My husband was in the AF but during the Force Shaping (cutting of LT's) he was put out of the AF. Now he works for USAA and I stay at home with our 13 month old son and we just found out that we are expecting again. How old are your children? I know that I only have one but if you would like I would love to get together sometime if you would like.

MOPS is a great way to make friends, you can go to their website to find a group near you. Our church is starting one up in September. If you live near the Northwest side of town, email me and you can join our playgroup. We small but we like to have fun. This coming thursday we are going to the zoo. The kids can play in the water and we can rest in the shade.

Hey D.,
First I commend all of you who stay at home. It's a big job.
As for fun stuff to do with the kids that doesn't cost money...pack some sandwhiches & go to the park. There are many here in San Antonio & most are very nice. Check out San Antonio Parks & Rec online.
- some have walking trails & we turn our walk into a nature adventure. How many different flowers can we spot...how many different birds...pick up trash along the way so that we are helping to clean our community along the way. Pick a different park for each outing. Some of these parks also have bike trails. Load up the bikes & all go riding together.
- some of these parks also have pools. The city has these parks open Tuesday - Sunday from 1pm to 7pm for FREE! You can also pack a lunch in a cooler & take it in with you. On top of that the pools offer a swim team. My 10 year old daughter recently joined & she has practice everyday from 12 - 1 & they have meets at the Nadatorium (Durango & Colorado) on Saturday mornings from 8 - 10. I have had to pay $15.00 total. $10 for the AAU enrollment & $5 for a swim cap. She lvoes it! She is getting a great tan, meeting new friends and improving her swim skills.
- You might also try joining SARecycle & Freecycle. These are websites where we offer & request different items. Many times people are giving away kids pools, toys, clothes. First come first serve. The girls & I have obtained lots of things we needed at NO cost & in good condition. The goal of both of these sites pis to keep things out of the landfills so again we are helping the earth.

Just some ideas. I'm a single mom and every little bit helps.
Wishing you the best,
R.

Go to Meetup.com

Join the many stay at home moms meet-up groups. It is a neat way to meet others in your area. What area of town do you live? How old are your children?
