I need to find a pediatrician who is trained in, and accustomed to dealing with children who were born prematurely. My daughters, ages 3 and 5, were born early, 7 weeks and 10 weeks early, respectively. I am moving to the Virginia Beach area, and need to find a PCM for them, and would prefer a Dr who is familiar with the needs and possible complications that arise from being born early. I also need to find one that take TriCare Prime. Thanks, in advance, and I'm sure I'll have many more questions in the days to come. I am glad to have found this site, that's for sure!

I can certainly understand the need for a doctor who can be knowledgable in many areas. All three of my children have special needs in some sort of way. I have found a great peds doctors office. And best of all yes they do take Tricare Prime as we are also military. It is general booth pediatrics. They are wonderful. Now the people at the front desk aren't as great but the actual nurses and doctors that we have seen (Fontana and Mitchell) are great. My kids are assigned to Dr. Fontana but they don't always have to see her. The whole practice is covered with Tricare Prime so you can see others even if you are assigned to one particular one. You can get same day sick appts and soon well checks if needed as well. The referral dept are also just as great. I highly suggest these. Oh yes they are located off General Booth and MCcomas Way. Near London Bridge. Their number is ###-###-####. Good and let me know if you have any other questions. Let them know that R. Vinyard referred you.

I would recommend either Pediatric Associates or Pediatric Specialists, both groups are afiliated with the Children's Hospital of King's Daughter. My twin girls were born 7wks early, and I'm very pleased with Pediatric Associates. Good Luck on your search.

I also go to General Booth Pediatrics. I am in there almost monthly and I have had no problem with the front desk or the nurses. Sometimes getting a call back, other than nurse triage, is a problem. My kids see Dr. Bartimoccia if it is a well check, otherwise for sick I usually take first available dr, including the nurse practitioners. My son had 2 heart defects that were just repaired by open heart surgery and Dr. Bartimoccia has always been on top of his care, both before and since his surgery. There are many topics of concern connected to Congenital Heart Defect kids, and they all have been great with him. My daughter has been having issues, which is why I've been there monthly, and they are great with her. They are taking things slow so to not bombard her with unnecessary tests, but they are also being thorough.
I also like that they are within the CHKD network, so they refer us to specialists associated with CHKD. That way when I end up going to the hospital, I go to CHKD. And all the doctors under the CHKD/Sentara network are linked so they all already have alot of my info on the system. Makes it a bit easier when calling to get appts with specialists.
They also have a lab connected to the office which makes lab work very convenient. I am there often too! Nurse triage is available starting at 7:30 am but usually you have to leave a message and wait for a call back. They also have an after hours service in case you need nurse triage late at night (which is usually when my kids are sick).

I live in Virginia Beach and have a wonderful pediatrician's practice. My doctor, Glenn Snyders, is not taking on any new patients, however, I haven't met a doctor there that I didn't like - and there are several. Dr. Stephen Rodgers and Dr. Rosemary Ashman have come highly recommended as well. Even the nurses are fabulous! I don't know if any specialize in premature babies and I don't know which insurance companies they accept. They are definitely worth looking into. To contact them: Pediatrics At The Beach, ###-###-####. They are located off of First Colonial Road near the hospital.

Best of luck!
