We are in the military and new to the Virgnia Beach area. I called Tricare to schedule appointments for school physicals and they dont have any openings until the middle of September, school starts at the beginning of September. I have called a million health clinics in the area and they are all booked up also. Does anyone know a good pediatrician in the area able to do school exams immediately?

What can I do next?

Hi L.,

I take my son to General Booth Pediatrics on McComas Way. They are a CHKD group and accept Tricare.

Well don't feel alone when worried about school physicals I was in the same boat this time last month. Only my problem was tricare wouldn't pay for my daughter's physical because she isn't 5 and isnt' going into kindergarten. But I do have good news. Doctor's on call can do her physical and blood work. Much cheaper le tme tll ya than patient 1st. It may be a chunk of change but it is the only option that I found. If your child is going into kindergarten and up then Tricare may pay for it I am not sure. It depends on who you are assigned to. And also if they will accept the bill as it is problaby not a doctor they want you to see. But good luck. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions. Where are you living? In housing? We live in Midway Manor. How old are your kids? Take care and welcome to Virginia. LOL

I take my son to General Booth Pediatrics and am always able to get an appointment. We are also military and they are my Tricare Prime Primary Care Manager. About a year ago I requested to switch to a civilian provider because I could never get my son an appointment at the Tricare Prime clinic of Oceana Branch Medical Clinic. The Tricare Health Benefits Advisor switched me to General Booth Pediatrics because the clinic was overwhelmed with patients.

As far as I know, it's all right if the physicals are late. Just contact the school and find out. :) Good luck.
