I have an eighteen month old baby boy, last night he slept perfect no problems. Although, this morning woke up very lathargic and very warm. I took his temperature using his armpit it stated 101. At that time I gave him tylenol, and a cold washcloth. I took his fever again in 45 minutes and it was 100.9. He is also very snotty, and does not want to move very much just kind of lay there on you chest. I'm kind of wondering what's going on withmy little man, and don't know whether or not to take him in. Can anybody help me out?

What can I do next?

that's just what's going around! Both my kids had fevers and few other symptoms last week - lasted two days or so. Tylenol, fluids and lots of rest!

Try infant ibuprofen, in addition to the tylenol, to see if that helps. They are two different medicines, so you won't be overdosing him by giving both. You can also try giving him a lukewarm bath (not cold). Make sure you are also keeping him hydrated. He sounds like he doesn't feel good... Is he talking yet? Can you ask him if anything hurts? If he's not better tomorrow, I would call the doc and see what they say. Poor baby!

I would call the nurses line or your pediatrician's office to she what he/she recommends based on his age. IMO a low grade fever is normal if he has a cold. AS LONG AS: a) it subsides with Tylenol AND b) it's lower than 102 degrees AND c) it doesn't last more than 2 days.

If 48 hours pass OR it spikes up HIGHER than 102 degrees OR the little guy is showing signs of dehydration (parched lips, sunken eyes, decreased urine output) get to the DR.

Dehydration is very serious for little ones so make sure he is taking in plenty of fluids, water is best but you can give some juice or other liquids if necessary. If I have to give them juice I usually dilute it by half as the sugars don't help dehydration.

This temp isn' too high for a little one. Could be a virus or ear infection... I would use motrin (I think it works better). I'd also put him in a tepid/lukewarm bath for a while at night if the fever gets higher. You can also steam him in the bathroom to loosen the congestion and get a humidfier for his room. If the fever is from an ear infection, he likely might need some antibiotics. I might call the Dr. and get his or her opinion too. It's no fun to see them sick, but he will be ok!

I would call the DR office and just double check what they say, but it probably is a virus. They can tell you all the things to do/watch for, etc. And give you advice on when to make an appointment if necessary, like the fever last more than a few days,etc...
Take care.

In a baby 101 isn't a high fever. The lethargy is the problem. Did you call your doctor. You could have called "Ask a Nurse" at your downtown hospital. Most cities have such a service.
You should get a homeopathic doctor. Years ago we had a pediatric presciber of homeopathic remedies for children. We used it all the time when our youngster was sick.

I would call your dr. office and ask to speak with a nurse. They can give help and advice over the phone. Or, call a nurse help line, your insurance company may even have one. Here are a couple you can try.. they are free: Evergreen: ###-###-####
Swedish: ###-###-####
you don't have to have given birth there etc....
