I noticed Sixteen Candles is on and then the Breakfast Club. I was in elementary school thru High School when his movies were popular. I LOVE this genre. I recall crying my eyes out in middle school when I saw She's Having a Baby. Do kids today watch his movies? I have let my kids watch Home Alone and they loved it.

edit: I just goggled him and didn't realize how many movies he wrote/directed and just noticed he passed away not too long ago.

What can I do next?

When we went on vacation a few years ago I brought a three pack, Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles and Pretty in Pink. My kids were 17, 15 and 12 at the time. I thought these movies might be dated but my kids loved them, especially the 17 and 15 year old, The Breakfast Club being their favorite! And they love, love, love Ferris Bueller's Day Off, as do I.
They also (all three) watched The Outsiders in school and loved that (not John Hughes but of that era.)

My 16 yr old can quote Ferris Bueller...
And he is a big fan of Breakfast Club, too.

Sixteen Candles and She's Having a Baby just don't seem like a teen boy's favorite type.... but my daughter may enjoy them eventually.

My daughter (12) loves them - she even went to a birthday party a couple weeks ago where the movie they watched was Ferris Beuller.

The one "old" movie we watched that she didn't like as much was Clueless, mainly because the slang was so dated she didn't understand a lot of what they were saying!

the breakfast club is a timeless favorite for me. i also like sixteen candles and pretty in pink.
funny you ask this, i was wondering just the other day if the breakfast club has any meaning for kids today. teenagers don't change, but the school atmosphere sure does. i haven't been part of the school scene for decades, but from what i hear, they don't even vaguely resemble the american high school i attended for 2 years.
