Irregular Periods - Iredell,TX

I was wondering if anyone out there had any suggestions for me. I am 44 and my periods have become irregular. Last month, I was 4 days late starting and my period lasted 9 days. This month, I was about 4 days early and I am on the 16th day. The first few days were like a normal period but I have been spotting every day since. I have no pain and nothing seems to be out of the ordinary except for the length of the periods. I feel like I am starting to go through menopause, but I am not sure. I have my yearly exam next week. Should I just wait to see my ob/gym then, or try to get in earlier? Any suggestions or advice you have would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

First of all, thanks for the wonderful responses. I went to my ob/gyn this morning. She said that everything looks good and that she didn't feel anything that did not feel normal, like a mass or fibroids. From her examination and the information I had given her, she said that she strongly believes that I am going through peri-menopause. We are going to keep a watch on things and go from here. I really thought that this is what was going on, but there was a little piece of me that was worried that there could be something else. Again, thanks for all of the responses I received.

D.,
Wait til you see your dr. Unless, you start excessive bleeding becoming anemic. Could be type of birth control you're on, or stress. The Dr will check out what is best based on your medical history.
Deep breath. Do something you enjoy and make time fly til then. I'm 47 now and sometimes do this. Enjoy your kids, mine are 10year old girl and 5 yr. old boy. Is there a mom group in N. Granbury? Take Care. -D.

Call your doctor to see if they feel you should come in immediately or next week. This could be serious...don't waste time for your family's sake. Only your doctor can give you answers.

Hello D.:

I was in your shoes just a while ago, I kept having irregular bleeding it lasted about 2 years and I got fed up went to the dr and i had cyst on my ovaries causing irregular bleeding (doc called it something else, one of them big words)I had Laproscropic Hysterectomy almost 2 weeks ago and I am recovering and so far everything is going good. IM not saying this is your situation just wanted you to be aware, I had to go to 3 drs before I found one that would do something about it. Everyone wanted to put me on BC and I refused to be on the pill for the rest of my life. Just wanted to let you know my story and that your not alone. Irregular bleeding is not fun, it actually was controlling my life! Good luck to you and hope the best for you.

Thanks
B.

It does sound like you are getting ready for menopause. My mom is doing the same thing right now and has been for awhile. I don't think there is any reason to get in sooner than next week, but you may want to call your GYN just to let them know what is going on.

I had something very similar spotting for half the month with no pain and my Dr recommended having a uterine ablation. in plain english they bake the inside of your uterus lining and you have no more periods. WOOHOO! I was 38 at the time, had three kids and wanted NO MORE.

Before she would do this - she wanted to take a look so I had one of those exams (the name escapes me) to look at the inside of my uterus where they found polyps. Freaked me out!

Apparently these are pretty common and most times benign. So I had day surgery. They removed the polyps - found them to be benign and then did the ablation. I was at Walmart with NO pain two hours later. literally.
And life with no periods since has been very sweet.
I hope for you something so simple!

If you are really worried - call and see if you can get in earlier. No use in making yourself crazy between now and then.
If it were me - I would wait until the appointment.

Very best of luck to you!

Let your GYN know what is going on, they do have medication they can give you to stop your cycle. At your visit you might want to talk to them about Cryoablation where they freeze the lining of your uterus and it stops your cycle they also have a procedure where they burn the lining. I have a lot of patients that have had great success with these procedures.
