iPod Touch? - Saint Paul,MN

Hi all,

I am not a phone person. My cell phone is rarely charged... I still use my home phone for most calls. Currently I do not text.

I know I am "behind the times" when it comes to phones... but we do have a brand new iMac computer (which Iove) and all our music lives on it (in our office). I don't have an iPod, iPhone, or an iPad... but am thinking about making the leap...

I don't see myself as ever becoming a phone person, so the iPhone is not that appealing to me. I do miss my music, and would love to carry it around. An iPad seems pretty big to bring with me everywhere...

Who has an iPod Touch these days? Do you have it because your cell is a work cell? Do you have it simply for more media options? Do your kids have them instead of phones?

My kids are 7, 5 and 3... I know in the future I'll need the cell phone more, but right now I'm considering just getting the iPod touch.

Let me know if you have one, why and if you like it!

Thanks!
J.

I have an iPod which I only use for music. And it's great for that. Very user-friendly.

My husband tried for 3 years to get me to get an iPhone. I finally caved this spring. I LOVE it and use it for all kinds of things I never imagined. And I was a girl who had a $30 flip phone with no bells or whistles. I tell you this just to suggest that if/when you make the leap, you may convert faster than you expected! :)

I have one & I love it...so does my 7 year old. I have all my music on it and other games/apps. I use for Internet and email mostly. My daughter has all types of games on it...from fun to educational. I'm not an iPhone person either...but I would miss my touch if I didnt have it anymore! I also use the camera and video camera on it. We have an 8 month old and sometimes I don't have time to find the regular camera...works great! And my older daughter loves to make videos on it too.

I just got mine for Mother's Day. I wanted something to take my music with me when I run (literally--running, as in, 3 miles or so. I get bored after about a mile, if I have no music).

Both my kids have them also. Hubby only has a nano--he ONLY wanted music, and he's had it a long time (it was a gift) and he's not really a techie type person. He didn't see any reason not to get a touch for me, to carry my music, since they aren't much more than a nano.

Anyway-- I have a cell phone I use to talk/text. I don't "do" internet on it. No real need.

The ipod is great, so far. It is compact, so I can just toss it in my purse and have internet while my kids are at karate class (wi-fi there), or whatever. I needed to take some pictures at church last week, and forgot to take my camera. It takes video also. Lots simpler to work with than my phone's camera.
I can check my email or this site, if I am getting my oil changed, etc. We have netflix, too. So I can watch instant movies away from home if I am so inclined--the picture is small... but hey... it beats staring at the wall waiting some places.

And there are so many devices you can connect to it to play your music through. We have a docking stereo in our bedroom. So I can pop my ipod in and listen to music there, while it charges it. My kids go to sleep with theirs. In the morning, it is charged and ready to go.

By the way... you are aware that you can play your music through speakers away from your imac, right? You don't have to be in the same room....

I'd pretty much say that I love it. Only had it a few weeks, but couldn't be happier. My kids take theirs everywhere. (We make them turn it off or leave it in the car at church, lol). They play games, etc. I am not much into the gaming stuff..

I have one - the 8 gb. I have my music on it. It's great when I go on walks to have my tunes with me. I have lots of games on it. It can connect to the internet, but I get spotty service with that. Mostly I use it for games and music. The kids like to have it to play on when we're at church (I know, that's bad) or waiting at a restaurant. I have a separate cell phone. My husband has the iPhone and loves it. He uses it constantly. I can also use the iPod to take pictures when I'm caught without my camera.

I have an iPhone which I love. Both of my daughters have touches. They are 10 and 14. I got the touches for them as an alternative to their DS game because apps are generally WAY cheaper than DS games, and they lose the game cartridges which drives me bonkers! We have wifi at home too so my older daughter can check her email from it. The girls have separate cell phones too. They use their iPods everyday! They love them. I would definitely recommend them.

I have it. My favorite feature is actually the Kindle ap, so that I can take my books with me to the doctor's office or whatever in a tiny little iTouch. The music feature is also nice. I'd rather have an iPhone, but I can't afford one, so this is the next best thing!

My daughters (age 15 and 17) both have ipods and love them. They can listen to their music, play games, search the internet.

They also have cell phones. Our cell phone plan only covers phone calls - no texting, no internet. It's so much cheaper this way. The cost of the ipod isn't much more than the cost of a smart phone. We have wireless internet in the house. They can get internet access at most places. So why pay for it. Our cell phone plan for all 4 of us is $104 a month including all taxes and fees.

My son has an iPod touch. I have an iPhone, iPad, and iPod nano. I use my phone for my music, unless I'm running, then I find the nano so much easier because it clips onto your clothes. The iPhone and iPod touch are almost the exact thing (except with the phone). I have noticed that the camera isn't as nice as the Touch. But that didnt seem to be a concern of yours. Also with the phone you can access the Internet anywhere you have cell service. I personally think the iphone is the better way go. So you don't have to use it as a phone if you don't want to, but at least it can be your phone when you need it and an iPod when you don't. And that way you aren't carrying around another gadget.

We had our iPod touch first and loved it so much that we had to have the bigger version as well (iPad). Both require wifi for many apps and Internet. Which one do I use more at home? The iPad. Which one do I bring with me when the kids may have to wait in long lines? The iPod. I also don't have a smart phone because it drives me bonkers when parents and caregivers are constantly on them instead of engaging or watching their kids in public.

I have an iPod Touch and love it!! I use it every single day for everything! I have my music (and my kids' music) on it. I also download a couple of podcasts that I listen to everyday. I do Facebook on it, check my email accounts, renew my library books on it, and hardly ever turn on our computer any more. I have apps for recipes, my calendar, news, weather, games (for me and the kids), a Bible, books to read, etc. The newest generation has camera/video and Facetime which can work like a phone if you connect with someone else who has it. The only real drawback is that for a lot of the apps to work you have to have wireless or wifi. That's no problem at home but can be hard to find in public. But more and more places are adding it. I love mine!

Actually, my son got an iPod Touch about the same time that my husband got an iPad. Truthfully, the iPad blows it away. The iPod Touch sits--the iPad is in higher demand here.
