Input on the ''Mini Pill'

I'm about to start taking the mini pill which was prescribed to me at my 6 week checkup. I got it prescribed because at the time I was breastfeeding but I decided against taking it. Now I am not breastfeeding at all and have decided to take it. The reason why I don't want to take any other birth control pill is because I am scared I won't be able to conceive in 2-4 years. I was on estrogen-progestrone b.c for nine years. I had a very difficult time conceiving and eventually conceived after three rounds of Clomid. Did it work effectively for you? Any side effects? Your input would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

What can I do next?

Ah, the mini pill :).

Have you met my 4 year old? Yea, it was not at all effective for me, but I'm so thankful that it wasn't!

My best friend from high school got pregnant with twins while on the mini-pill.

I would talk with your doctor about other BC options.

I had fertility meds for each of my 3 everytime they wanted me on bc post partum. My theory is if it was difficult the first time around and you do want more children, unless spacing not of your choosing would majorly impact your ability to car for your kids then go without and figure out your period and try to avoid the hot spots of the month and if you end up pregnant you saved yourself the money for both bc and clomid and those anxious visits of will it happen. If you however could not handle a baby addition anytime soon then take the micro bc and hope for the best.

It is very unlikely that the pill had anything to do with you trouble to conceive and chances are if you had trouble before, you will need fertility treatment again the second time around.
As for the minipill - it would not be an option for me, there would just be NO way I would be able to take it as accurately as it need to be taken...

I, personally, hated it. I was on it for a year and a half after having my son. At first, I had the only side effect I had was lack of libido, but as time passed I had more and more. I got off of the mini-pill when my OB agreed that it was what was causing my chronic yeast infection...at least one every other month, and the worst ones I'd ever had. It was awful for me. When I stopped taking it, I also realized that the headaches that I'd been having were also due to the pills, since they stopped when I stopped taking it. That being said, I know lots of people who've had it and loved it. It's very dependent on your own body chemistry.

I second the opinion that the pill had nothing to do with you troubles, but you reproductive endocrinologist could weigh in on that and let you know for sure as well as what your chances are for having trouble conceiving the second time around. We all know families where the first baby was hard to come by (and may have even been adopted) and then something clicks and before you know it...there's baby #2, #3, #4 etc. So I wouldn't gamble on the mini pill unless you're ready to possibly be pregnant again sooner than you expected.

As for my experience...the mini pill was great until I conceived my youngest son while on it. That "take it at the same time every day" thing is no joke so if you take it and really don't want to be pregnant again now, be vigilant with it as there is no room for error.

I would talk to the doc about the Nuva ring, it's not an internal form of BC so it doesn't effect the body as bad.
