Hi S.,
I took the mini pill while nursing my daughter and I didn't have any problems at all. I pumped and nursed like I always had and it really didn't seem to hurt the milk supply. I really think that it depends on your body though. Everyone is so different.

Good luck!

I took the mini pill while breastfeeding and had no problems at all! In fact, I pumped while I was at work and was producing a lot more milk than my daughter was drinking during the day, so I even had milk stored up when I started weaning from bf.

My second child is due in a couple of weeks and I plan on taking the mini pill while bf again.

I took the mini pill while I nursed my daughter. I didn't have any problems with milk supply. The thing with the mini pill is that you HAVE to take them at the EXACT same time every day. I know you're suppose to with the regular pill too, but with the mini pill you absolutely HAVE to or they don't work. Since you have been nursing for so long, you should be ok on a regular pill. I was put on Ortho Tricyclin-Lo (sp) after I had been nursing for 3 months. I alway had plenty of milk and I absolutely did not want to get pregnant. For me, a higher dose pill was a much better choice. Make sure you explore all your options.

It completely depends on your body and there is no way to know until you try. If you are one that it causes to dry up it can be a real pain to build your supply back up and the longer you wait the harder it can be. If you haven't gotten your period back it may not even be necessary for you to be on the pill to prevent pregnancy. If you are open to the idea of a more natural approach you can check out a book called "Your Fertility Signals". It tells you how to track your fertility without artificial hormones to do it and it is highly effective. There is also a chapter dedicated to fertility and breastfeeding.

I was told the mini-pill was the only pill you could take that wouldn't dry you up. I took it for 6 months after our third child was born & had no problems at all. He nursed for 17 months with zero supply issues.

I took the mini pill while I was breastfeeding my baby and it didn't interfer with my milk supply at all. You might have had a communication lapse with your Dr. A regular BC pill will dry up your supply, but the mini pill is designed for breastfeeding women. Best of Luck!

Your doctor is confusing the mini pill with the regular pill which contains both estrogen and progesterone. The mini pill only has progesterone and should not affect your milk supply in any way. Some women are able to take a regular pill after they have a well established milk supply. I started on a regular pill when my baby was about a year old, and I still nursed her for another year and half after that.

The mini-pill typically should not dry you up. It doesn't contain estrogen like normal pills which is why they usually prescribe that while breatfeeding. I used it while nursing both my children with no problems, but the day they put me back on regular pills my milk disappeared!
