I currently have my 12 month old son enrolled at Bearfoot Lodge in Sachse and love it there. However, he is constantly getting sick. Presently he has pink eye, ear infections in both ears and the flu. In December he had RSV. We get him well and then 2 days later he is sick again. I have heard that children get less sick while in an in-home atmosphere. I am the first of my friends to have a baby so I don't know where to go for referrals. I hate to pick someone from a list. We are trying to work it out to where I can stay home with him but in the mean time need to find an alternative to a daycare facility environment. Anyone have any referrals, personal experiences with someone? I want somewhere that has a curriculum and somewhere that stimulates him and not just lets him play or watch TV all day. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I know that this is the season to get sick and his RSV lowered his immune system and he is more likely to get sick. What I am looking for is in-home daycares. Can anyone recommend any in the Wylie/Sachse area? Thank you!

Hello H.,
I currently own an in home child care facility located in North Garland, really close to Wylie. I currently have a couple of spots avaiable now. My facility is a bit different than other in homes in that I have over 700 sq ft built on to my home just for the kids. It is a mimi replication of a daycare but just on a smaller scale and in a home. The children have their won cubbys and we do similar activities that they are used to in the daycare atmosphere. I usually keep anywhere from 3-6 children at a time so you need not to worry about being overly exposed to different sicknesses. Children are always going to get sick bc their immune system is still developing but I agree that if they are exposed to smaller groups of children the environment is much easier to control. If you are interested in more information I am eager to hear back from you.
Thanks

H., Since your child was sick with the RSV he will be more likely to pick up different virus and colds, etc. This RSV weakens their immune system. He will be getting sick right now wherever he attends. Just make sure that his school practices alot of handwashing. Ask them about their policy on cleaning and handwashing. All toys should be sanitized after use. Good luck

I have a home daycare. I don't have any openings but I am sorry to tell you when it's so bad with the illnesses that schools are having to close, there is not a whole lot you can do. The only way you can keep your child or yourself from getting sick is to not be around people and that is just not realistic. You cannot control babies from putting things in their mouths. That is a normal thing for them to do. You also realisticly can't possibley get every single toy they put into their mouths from them to wash it so other kids can't get it and then get the germs from it. No matter how much you tell them to cover their mouths when they sneeze or cough they don't get it for along time. Also they need to be taught to cover their face with their elbow when they sneeze or cough not their hand. When they cover there mouth with their hand they just get the germs on their hand and then touch the toys with that hand. So most of the time they are sneezing/coughing into the air and the germs are everywhere. Some adults are not much better. They go to work and don't practice good washing techniques and pass it along there. It is almost a matter of luck wheather you get sick or not.
Sorry to be so negative about this but I don't have any answers.

Just a suggestion, but you can go to the state website. www.dfps.state.tx.com and pull of a list of providers in your area. I did this with my son and found a wonderful lady in Frisco. The first 2 years in daycare they will get sick a lot and it is that time of year so keep that in mind, however less children means less illnesses being spread so that is why young children probably do better in an in home care setting. I have my son in a home care setting and love it. If you can't find any refferals I would look at the list and just start calling and visiting some places. Then ask for referrals from the places you look at and call them. I hope this helps and good luck.
