Igoing Back to Work. Nanny Orsomething Needed??? What Do I Do

I am in Dallas and found in home child care for my first baby - he stayed there until almost two and then moved to a nice small daycare center/preschool.

Nannies were too expensive for us.

I would put your name on some waitlists for places nearby, and look into some in home care - you can see places that are registered by the state at the link Julia provided.

I do know people who patched together different people to watch the child different days, and it seemed confusing and like they were always scrambling to cover a day because someone got sick or had a conflict.

Maybe you could do something at home for the first year and then try something less expensive?

You need to start calling around! Quality childcare is difficult to find on short notice.

If you need consistency, then go with a childcare provider either in a center or in someone's home (licensed, of course). Every state maintains a listing of approved childcare providers. Check out their website and start calling.

Nannies are great, but can be pricey if you are going to be paying someone's salary and benefits. If cost is a consideration- go with a group setting.

Please look at In home childcare. When my son was a baby i did a lot of research on the different options in the dallas area. I personally chose to use only in home care till my children are school age. The number of kids is lower which means fewer illnesses and more individual attention. They are also generally less expensive.

I would not have 3 people watch the baby. maybe mom adn 1 paid caregiver.. with the freind as a back up if mom or paid nanny is sick.]

I had a nanny.. she did whatever she wanted and didnt follow my rules.. but my child was healthy and did nto get sicki.. When the kids were 2 and 3 they started daycare..

We have our boys enrolled in a private preschool. Look for in home care on your area.
