My son will turn 10 in May and I"m trying to think of something cool to do. He's at that age where you have to be careful. you don't want it too babyish, but also not out of their league. I had a Secret Agent Party at home for him last year and everyone loved it. I don't want to spend a ton this time around either. Any suggestions that boys and girls could enjoy?
At ten you have to keep them busy, a swimming party,bowling party,jump around party, we had a scavenger hunt party, fear factor party, double dare party.

At this age, they do have ideas on what they want.
How about a scavenger hunt or hunting for treasure? You could enlist your neighbors for help.

My son is turning 10 at the end of April. I was going to do a big surprise Disney trip for his Spring Break which ends 2 days before his birthday. Without telling him where, I asked if he wanted to go on a trip for Spring Break with me and his sister. Dad has to stay home and work. Nope, don't wanna go. What? Don't wanna go. Its a REALLY cool trip! Nope.
Grandma is surpising him with a trip to the circus on Friday. On Saturday, the family is going to surprise him with a family day trip the local amusement park. Sunday is Easter. His birthday is later that week.
Five days of partying!!
My other ideas were: mini golf party with friends; or a movie with friends.
My son turned 10 in January. I am not quite ready for the whole spending the night. We went bowling. The kids had pizza, and I had a sundae bar for the kids. The sundae bar was a big hit. Everyone had a great time! I had it early in the day. I didn't have to worry about my house and I still had the day to do other things. It was a win win situation.
Bowling, swim party, skating . . . all good for both boys and girls. Is he into sports? My daughter is turning 12 and her party was last night's FC Dallas soccer game. They offer a birthday package which includes 10 tickets, a goodie bag and food (no cake, though, and you can't bring one into the park) and the cost was $350 (I thought this was pretty reasonable). She had boys and girls and even her friends who aren't soccer fans had a really good time!
How about a swim party. Never too old or young to enjoy the water.
If he's into video games, you could have a gaming tournament at your house. Let him invite a few friends, order pizzas and have soda and snacks. Set the living room up so that there is plenty of seating and rent several video games, make brackets and have a tournament.
Not an original idea on my part... neighbor did it with her son and borrowed a couple of tv's and extra gaming equipment and we helped chaperone. It was actually a great night for the boys and I was really surprised by how into it the two "big boys" were, especially b/c neither my husband or my neighbor play them!
