Ideas for Christmas Present for My Sister's Family

My sister has 4 children and is married.. she's said that her kids have all the toys/clothes they need and so she isn't sure what they'd like. I was thinking of giving their family a trip or something fun to do. They don't have a lot of money so it would be a chance for them to get out as a family.

Any ideas for things that are close to Toledo/Monroe area? Around $150 total.. or just something fun to do that I could get a couple gift cards for?

What can I do next?

Toledo has a great hands on museum that just reopened. It used to be called the COSI...it closed, they renovated it and just opened as Imagination Station. Could even do a family membership. Could also do a day at the museum and a gift certificate for them to go to dinner.

Have you thought about getting their family a zoo pass to the Toledo Zoo? Zoo passes are relatively inexpensive and it could be something fun for the kids.

I agree with Kim... If you want to give a gift card, a Visa or American Express with an amount is the best way as this is taken pretty much everywhere they would want to use it. Also, if they decide that they did not want to use if for a 'trip', they may have some thing that they decide they just may want to purchase - and they can with a card like this.

I am not fond of getting cards that 'lock' me into specific stores or spots as I may not spend that full amount or find anything I like - or get there ever. Then it's wasted.

When I do gift cards, I also enjoy giving a small craft item as so many are easy as pie to make - even a hand-crafted decoration is fun as it can be reused each year and it has a memory attached to it.

Do they like to go to the movies? Maybe a gift card that they can use to attend together? Or another family friendly gift could be admission tickets to a place where they can skate, play air hockey, laser tag, etc. This would make it something they could enjoy together.

What about a night at a hotel that has a pool and gameroom? The first thing that came to mind was Kalahari near Cedar Point. I've never been there but know that my friends have had a great time there. This would be more than $150 but maybe another family member would want to go in on it, too. If you didn't want to do such a big waterpark type place, maybe you could find a hotel that would have winter specials. There are some around here that will do movie and pizza nights with a night's stay.

My other idea would be gift cards to a movie theater. Our kids love to go to the movies and indulge in the popcorn and candy, but that is such an expensive treat. If they had gift cards, they could enjoy the movie without thinking about how much they spent on it.

Good luck! I'm anxious to see the other suggestions. I'm always looking for alternatives to just giving more 'stuff'.

How about a family membership to the zoo, or a science museum or something similar where they could go all year long?

One gift I like, and my sister on bugdet can give my whole family, is an annual pass to the metropark system. It is for the whole family and we really enjoy it! I am not sure if the Toledo area has anything similiar. Maybe there is a local theater and get tickets for family plays. Good luck.
