I am having a small birthday party in my home for my son's birthday. I figure the basics, food, cake, balloons.... what else am I missing? What games can they play? What can I do to make this much fun for everyone! Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

Keep it simple for them. Arts and Crafts is a good idea. And basically they will be happy just playing together. Follow the Leader is a good game. Hopping like Frogs, Bunnies, Singing Songs. Hope this helps. Have a great time!

Are you having a theme? Every year with my daughters birthday and our friends kids birthdays we choose a theme. When you choose a theme sometimes it makes the game part of the party easier. We always do a pin the tale on the donkey type game except use our theme. We had a Shrek party and did pin the booger on Shrek. We printed out a poster size shrek and pinned him on the wall and then got slime and used it as the boogers for each kid to pin on shrek. Since you can't really write their name on a booger, we wrote their initial next to their booger after they pinned it on shrek. The kids loved it. We did a luau party and did pin the coconut on the tree. Same idea, printed a poster size palm tree and a bunch of coconuts for the kids to pin on.At the Ninja Turtle party we pinned the mask on the turtle. Kids that age always love pinatas. If you don't have a theme, they always have generic type pinatas. I always get ideas for games, party favors and decorations online. If you have a theme chosen, such as Shrek, you type "Shrek birthday party ideas" into google and it will come up with a bunch of different ideas other moms have posted.

You could do a fun craft or two, that is what we did at my sons, I had a bunch of toys out and some craft stations, it was a hit!

When my one son turned 3 we had 6 friends over for a fireman themed party with a fireman on a cake, made fireman puppets out of lunch sacks, colored a fireman coloring page, and played pin the hat on the fireman. When my other son turned 3 we didn't have a theme, had 3 friends over with cupcakes, a backyard blanket picnic on the grass, count how many times you can bounce the hand blown balloons in the air without having it touch the ground, how many tries does it take to pop your balloon by sitting on it, filled a bucket with soapy water and used new fly swatters from the dollar store to dip in the bucket and wave through the air to make lots of bubbles.

They can play "duck, duck, goose"; you can do a treasure hunt; you can have a balloon pop - put several on the floor, then have them pop them; you can have them do a pinata or a craft of some type (decorate cookies, make paper airplanes and fly them), etc. Have fun with it!

we did potato sack races, bean bag toss (with over size large easy target), pin the tail, nose or face on something....could be blown up picture of animal, daddy, queen of England, Barney etc. With small gifts as rewards. The dollar store is a great place for goody bags and fillings to send home with the kids, always given at the door as they leave. This way not every bag had to be the same as the others.

At my daughter's 3rd birthday, the kids decorated their own party hats--I just bought different colored ones and lots of different stickers at Party City. They also decorated their own cupcakes. I premade chocolate and vanilla cupcakes, white frosting divided up and colored with food coloring, and bought different cute sprinkles. I'd suggest doing the cupcakes outside if you can!

Happy birthday to your little one. You can have them play Red light green light. You can make a red stop sign and a green stop sign or look at a teaching store for red or green hands to play. Also I think they may also sell parachutes where you can have the kids hold on with the adults leading and sing the wheels on the bus song. I had a bubble machine for my sons party that I picked up at walmart. It was $5 I think. Kids like to run through bubbles. I am sure whatever you do will be fun!
