She is reading at second grade level (H).
We like picture books too so we've read Max Lucado and othersl. We don't have much room to buy/store so we try to get them at the library. I appreciate any help. Thank you.

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone so much! We don't have a children's section at our church library as most of the books are for adults. I will go ahead and look for those recommended in the libraries and order them through the library as we don't have space to buy and store. I like the idea of buying and reselling, we can't do that right now but when I am able to, we will.

Lots of good books out there. You might check the library at the church you attend. You can look on common sense media for recommendations and christianbook.com

Personally, I love Charlotte’s Web, Stuart Little, Winnie the Pooh series, Trumpet of the Swan, Mr. Popper’s Penguins, The Borrowers, Black Beauty.

Have fun!! 😊

Go to a Christian Book store? Lifeway is one and you can likely order online if there's not a location in your town.

Half price books has a Christian section.

Hi A.G.,
you've received a lot of good ideas on how to get books on the cheap!
Here's a list of a few great book(and some series)
1. Concord Cunningham, The Scripture Sleuth by Mat Halverson- its a lot like the Encyclopedia Brown books but uses his knowledge of the Bible. Can buy the books for cheap on Amazon, have her read them then resell on Amazon etc.
2. Animal Friends series by Janette Oke- 15 books in the series about life lessons & friendship, sad the books are out of print but check used book stores/eBay/Amazon.
3. The Ruby Slippers series by Stacy Towle Morgan- published back in the 90s but can possibly be found at library or 3rd party sellers. About 2 sisters that are home schooled and love to join their dad on his works trips to places all over the world and they learn about God, other cultures, & life lessons.
4. The Adventures of Lily Lapp by Mary Ann Kinsinger and Suzanne Woods Fisher-adventures of a small Amish girl.
5. Cul-de-sac Kids by Beverly Lewis- lighthearted chapter books about neighborhood friends learning about faith, teamwork and they go on adventures.
6. Adventures in Odyssey's The Imagination Station series- very educational time travel stories, the children travel to different periods in history.
7. The Three Cousins Detective Club series by Elspeth Campbell Murphy- mystery solving adventures of 10 or old cousins. They learn about fave Bible passages while solving mysteries.
8. In Grandma's Attic series by Arleta Richardson- old series recently reprinted. About a young girl as she listens to her grandma's stories of the old days. Stories of laughter, discovery, mischief and learning about God.
Good luck on your book adventure!

Does your church's Sunday school have a library? Or you might just ask the teachers/volunteers what they recommend.
How about a Christian bookstore? Or Half Price Books (if you have one in your area, ours has Christian books, including used ones.)
Once you find some authors or series you like you can look for them on ebay.

i loved the danielle ross mystery series. by gilbert morris. my parents church had several books from the series in the library and i read them all several times! might be a good read for her when she is a little older but if shes advanced she might love it! ( my son is nearing his 8th bday and i would let him read them if a girly mystery book was an interest of his, but he prefers boy books and minecraft)

ALOHA!! Welcome to mamapedia, A.G.

What does your church library have?
What about this store?
https://www.yellowpages.com/mililani-hi/mip/showers-of-bl...
have you gone there with her to help her pick out books?

Have you gone to the other side of the Island to look for books? There are books stores on the Island that trade books too, I believe.

ebay would be another source for you. Buy, read and then repost or donate to your church library.

I always suggest asking your librarian any questions about the books they have. The librarian can help you choose appropriate books and will also note your interest when it is time to select new books. Some libraries have a policy of loaning from library to library, so if that's available, your selection will be even larger.
