So What Happened?

ok first i think it was my fault because i am teaching my 22 months kids to use kids scissors for hllowen crafts so i think she thinks it was a paper and some was cutting and others just tear up the bills
i can taped all the bills except one 20.00 half

thank you everyne who responded i follow your advice and some i exchange to the bank and they make me feel a little good because they were telling some incredible stories aout what can happen to the money and some i just went o the store and pay with the bills.

i am making everything to NOT let this happen again because it can be worse and she could cut herself so no more scisoors in that table .

I think that a bank can help you. I would spend some time putting the pieces together so that they can read the numbers on each bill.

Just a thought though....I just had my wallet recently stolen. I would not walk around with that much cash! Luckily for me, I don't carry cash so and quickly cancelled my credit cards so they got away with nothing but had I had cash, my loss would have been much greater.

Good luck!

A bank will be able to match up the numbers on the bills and replace them. Just go in and tell them you what happened and you need some help. If you don't have a bank account. Go to a branch in town and ask them. You haven't lost your money. It will be a it bit of a hassle.

Wow. 1)Lock the scissors up LOL and 2) take all the peices to a bank and see what they advise you do. They can tell is the bills are real money and I'm sure they can offer the best advise on how to proceed.

Best wishes!

And, in addition to the financial recovery,
you might want to think about WHY your kid did this.
Was she angry at you?
Did she think she needed to get your attention?

I would piece all the money together and then take it to your bank. I'm sure it'll be a hassle, but the bank should be able to direct you in how to get it replaced.

Unless your profile hasn't been updated, it says your child is 7 years old. This is not something a 7 yo would do. I would be extremely concerned with this type of behavior.

Check out the website "Sh*t My Kids Ruined" - it is also available as a page on Facebook. It won't get your money back, but it will help you feel like you are not the only one. And now you have something to contribute - "my kid ruined my paycheck!"

Ya, I worked at a bank for 4 yrs and they are not going to tape up your money for you. Most banks wont even take coins now a days without them being rolled up. Unfortunately you will probably have to take the time to put the pieces together.

I'd try to at least piece some of it together and then head to the bank. If they won't/can't help you (whatever happened to customer friendly banks?) then I'd try calling the US Printing & Engraving Bureau in Ft. Worth, I know they have a "money recovery team" of people that put money back together including money that has burned in fires but is still somewhat salvageable. I'm not sure what their stipulations are or how it officially works but it might be worth a try.

Take the bills to your bank, they should be able to replace them for you. This happens more often than you'd think

Don't do anything with the money until you put the scissors away. Far away. Evidently they need to be out of reach for a while yet. :^o

here is a link that discusses it. Looks like you can try and tape them back together and go to a large local bank. If there is enough of the bills to clearly establish their value they can exchange them for you; or if they are determined to be too damaged you can send them to the Dept. Of Treasury.

It also gives a phone number for the mutilated currency department, maybe if you call them they can help.

My kids get their hands on things (scissors, markers, crayons) all the time and it is so frustrating! I feel your pain, especially since it is money. If the bank cannot help you, maybe you can go to your employer and explain what happened, and hopefully they can give you another paycheck. Good luck! I am so sorry this happened.
