Ok, I have had this wonderful GE gas stove with griddle. I am so afraid of using the griddle though. The using part is not bad but I am not sure how best to care and clean it so I just don't use it. I would love to use it tonight but was wondering if anyone has a stove top griddle and could recommend how they clean it. I am afraid to put water on it and feel like I am not getting it clean.

Also, how often am I suppose to season?

mine is Jen Air and it is removable so I just pull it off and wash it with dish soap and water and a soft scrub brush if needed. Never use any scrubbing pads or steel wool. I dont think you need to season it just rub it with vegetable oil after you clean and dry it- that is what I do.

I do not have a stove top griddle but I do remember my Aunt using a baking soda paste to clean hers. She would make a paste and spread it on it and let it set for a bit and then just wipe it off. Then she would wipe it off with a clean dish rag to remove any residue. Hope this helps.

If it is cast iron use a somewhat runny past of oil and salt. The salt acts like comet but does not scratch it and the oil keeps the griddle well seasoned.

If you wash it with soap and water then heat it after cleaning it and that will get the pores dry and then just wet the edge of a paper towel or rag with oil and wipe it over it to keep it seasoned.

In the instruction manual for the stove you will find instructions on how to clean it. If you don't have the manual, try the manufacturer's website. I'm certain a great company like GE will have loads of wonderful information on how to best use and clean their products. You don't have to season the griddle.
