Hi. I've been living with my parents for over a year now. I have a 4 and a 2 year old. We were living overseas for a couple of years. My husband is still there until his papers go through. Anyway, living with my parents has become extremely difficult and stressful. Does anyone know if I'd be able to get some kind of housing/rental assistance? I have no idea where to turn to. I'm so stressed out because I'm also having an extremely hard time trying to find work. Savings are almost gone. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Check with your county housing authority. I do have to tell you that most people have to wait about two years. All states are different so I would call and ask.

Most subsidized housing programs have had severe budget cuts. Waiting lists are extremely long (years). You may qualify, but you'll probably be put on a waiting list. It took my daughter over 5 years in California!

Get on the list now, but don't count on anything coming your way any time soon. You'll have to make the best of the situation you're in or you could try to find a roommate that wouldn't mind living with 2 kids and get a 3 bedroom house or apartment.

Good luck! I know living with the parents when you're a parent yourself is extremely difficult!
