Home Phone - Need to Eliminate or Switch Carriers

I don't know if you have Charter up there (& it's cable - not dish) but we just switched our phone & internet to Charter. We have been very happy with this so far. The only issue - and we knew this going in - is that when the power goes out - no phone service. But we have our cell phones so it's not an issue. And we saved quite a bit doing this. The only reason we still have our landline is because my husband won't give it up :) Good luck for whatever you choose to do !

I heard that there is a device called "magic jack". How it supposidly works is that you buy this magic jack device and plug it into your computer and then plug in any home phone to the other side of the magic jack and thats it... Its only $19.95 for the whole year but I think the first year is $39.95 and then its $19.95 therafter. I dont personally have it but it was recommended by a good frien. We just decided to use our cell phones. You can buy it at any radio shack. The website is magicjack.com , It also has a video to demonstrate how it works. Hope this helps.

We have cell phones but we also have the majic jack which plugs into your computer. Like the first poster said, it's 39.99 for the gadget and first year service and then 20.00 per year. It includes free long distance and also has cheap international rates. It's saved us a ton!

We've done Vonage for our home phone for 5 years and have been very happy with them. I don't use that line a ton, so I got the $14.99/ month deal (500 minutes) and we've been happy with it.
