Hemorrhoid Question.. Probably TMI but I Need Some Opinions!

I'm pregnant with #2 (due in Dec) after delivery I'm having my tubes tied or cut or whatever it is they do to them :). My question is this: I got pretty bad hemorrhoids after #1 from pushing during labor and they never went away, tried all the creams, fiber, suppositories everything and nothing made them better enough to continue to use the goos and I have monthly issues with them. I KNOW that after #2 they will probably be worse than they are now and I really want to get them removed as I'm not planning on having anymore kids. I heard the surgery is horrible but I can't imagine it's worse than having these for the rest of my life... anyone out there had this done or know someone who has and what did they have to say about it? Trying to get everything done right after birth so I'll have as little down time as possible.. plus I have amazing insurance so I'm trying to get it all done before my hubby leaves the military.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I'm getting a tubal not just because I don't want to have more kids but because I have issues with migraines when I ovulate. From what my doc was saying they are doing the tubal laparoscopically and it will not compromise my core, I've had an appendectomy that way and had no issues, the reason I was wanting to have the hemorrhoid surgery while in the hospital is my husband gets paternity leave and my MIL will be in town for 2 weeks to help.. that and our small business needs me back and back for good after baby.

I had the surgery about 2 years ago after having what sounds like a very similar experience to yours. My hemorrhoids were pretty much in constant flare up and were extremely painful. The surgery was awful. I was pretty much useless for about 2 weeks. And don't even talk about going to the bathroom...Youch!!! After a lengthy healing process (takes about 2 months to get fully back to normal), I have had very good results. They are gone and have not come back and I am much more comfortable than I was before surgery. However, I would strongly caution you against having this surgery right after giving birth. You really will be useless for about 2 weeks. You will be in a lot of pain and on a lot of pain medication (not good if nursing). It will be very difficult to take care of baby's needs in this condition. You simply will not have the stamina to take care of your baby while recovering from this kind of surgery. My advice would be to wait until you have recovered from giving birth and your husband is on leave or a friend or family member can take care of the kids for awhile. You really don't bounce back easily from this kind of surgery.

Have you talked to your Dr.? There are prescription creams that they can give you that work WAY better than the over the counter stuff...... My Dr. told me that the surgery is painful, and that there is no guarantee that they will not come back in the future. You should speak with your Dr. about your options.

Hope you are feeling better soon! I know it is horrible.

i got 'em after delivering a big baby too. i decided not to get the surgery and am happy with that decision. they do flare up sometimes, but i can keep them under control for the most part with ointment (sometimes i need the px, it really is much better than over the counter) and homeopathic pills. i know homeopathy is iffy, and i'm not sure i buy into it myself, but the hemorrhoid stuff (aesculus hippocampus) works miracles for me!

I'd go see a specialist and ee what they say. Yup, anything involving the butt is just about the worst dr. appt you can have - but he/she will help you by making a plan. They also will tell you that two weeks of pain will be much better than a lifetime of issues. Feel better. And congrats!!

I had really bad hemorrhoids after my first was born. I just always used witch hazel, which seemed to help a lot (more than anything else I found). Fortunately, they improved greatly before I got pg with my second (4 yrs later), and NEVER came back full force. Just wanted to throw it out there that they are not guaranteed to get worse with your second birth. I rarely have any issues at all anymore...maybe one day of discomfort around my menses :)

You are getting a tubal ligation without a cesarean? Why would you put yourself thru that? Have your husband get snipped instead - - much simpler procedure, doesn't require anesthesia, doesn't require any special recovery (yours would not allow lifting anything heavier than 15 lbs and would completely breach the integrity of your abdominal core muscles that keep your body upright!). That's not even going into the complications!! Getting a vasectomy would be 15 minutes in... and out within 2 hours. Yours... sometimes I've heard of having to stay overnight to ensure there isn't hemorrhaging or internal bleeding.

As for the hemorrhoids... go into labor pushing while squatting or on your hands and knees - that would have gravity help you and not go against the pushing. It would limit your chances of getting more hemorrhoids or worsening the ones you have.

I'm sure the surgery would be worth it... but if you can wait 2-3 months until after the birth to allow your body to stabilize and return to normal... that would be ideal.
