I have had thee worst Hemorrhoids since my son was born 7 weeks ago. I've tried EVERYTHING! Tucks witch hazel pads, preparationH, hot bath tub soaks everyday, cold packs, and I finally got a prescription from my midwife, which is still not working! Does anybody have any ideas on how to get rid of them??? They are making life so difficult - it's hard for me to sit, which makes nursing hard. It's hard for me to walk, which makes exercising hard! I need help!

What can I do next?

They can be easily removed by the doc in his office and is painfree. My doc used lazer to remove. Good luck

My best friend had terrible hemorrhoids after her first. She went in to the doctor, he applied a local and basically sliced them off. She was horrified to hear what the doc was going to do, but was SO happy to have them taken care of. Now she tells ANYONE who has hemorrhoids to talk to their doc and GET THEM REMOVED. She said it got rid of the pain immediately.

get some milled flax seed, and sprinkle it on ANYTHING.
in addition, drink LOTS of water. eat lots of fruits and veggies. WHOLE grains, not white grains, not wheat, WHOLE grains.
the softer the stool, the easier on a hemmroid, and the quicker it can heal.

in the meantime, it is comfortable to nurse while lying down, once you get the hold of it, you will love it! :D it took a while to get used to it for me...

i had the same problem and the only thing that worked for me was fiber, and lots of it. i got as much fiber and water as i could for about 2 months and they went away eventually on their own. i ate fiber one cereal every morning, ate tons of veggies and fruit, and used metamucil 2 to 3 times a day. now i am completely back to normal and my daughter is 6 months old. if that doesnt work, i would have your doctor check for an anal fissure. i had this after i had my first daughter. it can be caused by pushing too hard during delivery. it is a small tear inside the rectum that cant heal on its own. they did a simple outpatient surgery on me and i felt better already the next day. hope this helps you.

It is possible that you may have more damage done to that area than what your midwife can treat. I would seek out another doctor to help you. A friend of mine had to have surgery 10 weeks after the birth of her baby because her hemorrhoids were not healing.

I would recommend you see a family practice or your regular general practitioner as soon as possible. The other poster was correct, you may need more help than a midwife or over the counter medicines can do.

Hi R.,
Ugh....I had terrible hemorrhoids after each pregnancy. Mine never really went away and each year continued to get worse with flare ups at least every other month. Right before my 3rd child (8 years after my first two children)mine were bleeding and I finally went in to the Dr. and he prescribed a foam type spray that was used internally (like PrepH). That seemed to do the trick but was also scheduled for a colonoscopy (never happened since I found out I was PG).
My biggest fear as I was pushing out my 3rd child was of course hemorrhoids so I was scared to push too hard! lol You can guess which pain overcame the mental obstacle!
After my son was born I did deal with hemorrhoids again but I also found the nutritional product I now use. This is by far not a quick fix. After 3 to 6 months noticed a huge difference and now 3 years later using the same nutrtion I never get those flare ups. This is so huge for me because I lost 3 family members to colon cancer :(
I wish I could give you the name of the product I was prescribed but that was 4 years ago. I would just check with a Dr. If the hemorrhoids presist, I believe the good nutrition is the way to go - as with most illnesses today!
Blessings,
L.

It sounds like you are doing all the right things. What I found the most helpful was eliminating salt and dairy from my diet. The salt especially seemed to make them flare up the worst. Also, the internal hemmoroid cream seemed to take the edge off and is still safe for nursing. Good luck.

I have had hemorrhoids since my first pregnancy. I started taking four gel caps of flaxseed oil every day, and I am convinced that it helps a lot. The culprits didn't go away, but are much smaller and not painful at all. Worth a try and no bad side effects, only good ones.

I would like to recommend Aloe Vera Gelly. U wash your hand and then squeeze a little on your finger and apply it on the hemorrhoids.

Please feel free to let me know the results.

I had the same thing with my first pregnancy, now they finally went away after a few weeks, I know that is not very encouraging but now I am pregnant again and they came back. I found out the best way to avoid them is to make sure I wasn't getting constipated. I started taking some natural remedies to soften my stools and keep me regular. As long as that is good i have no problems, email me if you need some ideas in that area :)

I've been dealing with this issue since before my first pregnancy. Everyone is right...warm baths, tucks pads, eating foods rich in fiber, and drinking lots of water are all important. When I was at my worst I had to get a prescription from the doctor for a special foam...I think it's called proctofoam. I'm not sure if you can take it if you are nursing but it's worth checking into. The foam took care of a nasty flare up for me. If I get that bad again I'll be going straight back to the doctor for some more of it. Hope you feel better soon.

I can feel for you because I had them bad with my first and one had to be surgically removed. If you have to go that route make sure you have someone else to help you for several days. I couldn't even get out of the tub by myself it was soo painful. If you aren't at that stage and you have tried a lot of medications you may want to try an old fashioned remedy - vaseline. Its strange but if you use too many products you can be irritating the skin more than actually having hemorrhoid pain. When I had my second I got the suggestion of using vaseline petroleum jelly after cleaning the area with tucks and I had more help from the vaseline than the tucks so I quit everything else and just used that for a week and had major improvement. Good Luck!

I feel your pain- I had hemorrhoids really bad after both of my kids. Most products didn't work for me either. I did get a cream from my doctor that helped- it was a while ago so I don't remember what it was called-sorry. The other tip she gave me was to tuck the hemorrhoids up inside your anus and then they don't hurt so bad. It was nasty but it worked. I would put the cream on everytime I went to the bathroom and make sure those little guys were tucked inside and then they wouldn't flare up as much until you have a BM of course which was a totally miserable experience for months. There is also surgery if it is really bad. Mine went away without it so hopefully yours with too.

You might also have thrombosed ones. I had them after my son & let me tell you, they are far more painful then just your average hemorrhoid. I went to see my OB & I had like 4 of them. She said they may resolve on their own but if they got too painful, you either have to go to the ER or to a surgeon. Well, they did not get better. I couldn't even sit to breastfeed, it was terrible. Went to the ER & they had to remove the clot which is what makes it so painful. Can't be done in the OB office due to risk of bleeding. So, I would have them checked out. I tell ya, it was a ton better. Still have hemorrhoids but they rarely bother me & they are not thrombosed. Good luck, I feel for ya!!!!

Oh, I know - horrible! Had them with each of my three pregnancies - with the third, I actually needed surgical removal when I was 7 months along. Mine had become thrombose, and once you reach that point, they have to be removed. I am very thin and really, they 'should not' have gotten that bad, but as I also have thyroid disease, I became extremely constipated with each of my pregnancies. I still have an occasional problem, and my third babe will be two in a couple of weeks. I would advise that you visit your OB or a GP for a referral to a specialist if needed. Sometimes the OTC creams just don't cut it (especially after three vaginal births). Best of luck!
