Help Me, I Itch When I Walk Outside

I have a very strange issue but no doctor has been able to help me. Whenever I walk outside for more than 5 minutes, I get extremely itchy. It starts in my thighs, ankles or around my bra straps and then spreads throughout my body. It gets to the point where it burns. I also get it when I take a high energy aerobics class or walk too fast on the treadmill. I have tried Benedryl, no help. Now here is where it gets really weird. If I drink a Starbucks, vanilla, skim cappucino it holds off the itching temporarily but eventually, it comes back. Coffee doesn't work, only the cap. Doctors have suggested an allergy to pollen, but that's not it since it doesn't effect me when I'm sitting outside, just when I walk and it can happen indoors. I know this sounds trivial but it really affects me. I tried to go for a walk on the beach yesterday with my husband and kids and by the end of the walk, I was running to our car, crying because I was in so much pain. Has anyone else suffered from this?

What can I do next?

Are you a vegetarian by chance? I know vegetarians can develop a similar problem from a lack of an animal protein or enzyme or something... I'm not a dr. but a friend of mine who is a life-long veg. was diagnosed with this "disorder". He now takes a supplement of some kind to help with the problem.

Good Luck! Feel better soon!

I am so sorry that happens to you! I kind of know what you mean because I have major allergies and they cause me to itch too. I finally broke down and now see a really good allergist in Darien = Dr. Bouboulis. They did a ton of tests and I am getting shots eery week. Things are going well. They are also in stamford 2 days a week. Look them up! They are great! Good luck!

I know you said you've gone to the doctor but have you gone to an allergy specialist?

I have a similar response to heat, strong sun (I live in New England and I am very fair), and the worst- A TANNING BOOTH! My aunt suggested vitamin B6 pills. I took them for a week before going to the south of France in the summer (HOT) and while I was there- not one itch. I forgot to take it on my last day and had a very itchy flight home.
Good luck- I know it isn't fun.

Hi S.

I have also had the same problem for years. My doesn't burn but the itch is so intense that I scratch my legs until they are raw, I have even made them bleed. A few years ago my doctor said that I was releasing too much histamine (sp) and to try an anti-histamine before walking. My problem is that it would make me really tired so I never tried it. It doesnt happen every time I walk, usually only if I am walking really fast but I can understand your frustration, it is horrible. I have never met anyone that has had the same condition so if you find out any info please pass along

Thanks
R.
