While growing up and until having my daughter in Feb. 2008, I never had any problems during my monthly cycle. No cramps, pains, headaches.

Well, after having my baby in Feb., I noticed that during my cycle I get really bad discomfort and presure when I have to have a bowel movement or pass gas. The presure is not in front, but feels like near my anal area. This feeling is only when I have my monthly cycle. I don't know if it is from the c section or a symptom of having been pregnant.

If you know anything about this or what I can do. Please let me know. Sometimes I actually double over in pain from the presure. I can't do this every month for who knows how long! I see my obgyn in Sept.

What can I do next?

T.,
I have had 2 c-sections and I am having the same problem. It isn't every month but some months it is hard to get off the couch because it is uncomfortable to walk. I'm not sure what to do either but last month there was no problems. My only suggestion is to try and go on the pill or Nuvoring to lessen the cramping. I will say that my husband has a V-cut so the prospect of this isn't appealing to me so I'm up for any other suggestions as well. I will say maybe it will lessen my little one is going to be 2 in a few weeks and it always there but 75% of my periods are like you describe!

I too had the same problems. It started after I had my first and then I became pregnant so quickly that I don't remember if it ever stopped. It would be so bad with having a bowel movement that I almost would go running because I didn't know what was going to happen and then just the pressure in the perinuem was horrible around my period. I can say I have 3 children now and are on the Mirena and don't have any of those problems anymore. Whether it is because of the IUD or just getting used to having a baby, I don't know. I would talk about it with your OB but I do know it is completly normal because I have shared this with other women who have had the same symptoms.

Hi,
I've been getting that pain since my early 20's...since my first period, it's been horrible cramping and heavy flow. It felt like my ovaries where swollen and were causing sever pressure on my intestines and everything else they were connected to. I was told once I had kids it should stop. What a lie. After going through massive testing as an adult, I have a hormonal inbalance which is the cause of it. After my twins, i was really hoping things would get normal...i also had a c-section...but everything started back up again 3mths later. Now at 34 I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and put on levothyroxine. And everything has stopped, I don't even feel my cycles starting, during or after..best of all no intestinal pain. Happiest one of all is my husband!!!!...I'm not as moody anymore...hope the info helps..good luck

I used to have this problem too. I told my OB/gyn about it and she had no idea what was causing it. I had even had it happen before I had kids. I'm not sure what made it stop - getting an IUD or something else, but I haven't had it happen in years. I wish I could be of assistance, but just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I used to hate having a BM with my period because of the pressure I was experiencing.

I would go see a women's health physical therapist, this is what they specialize in.
