I have a white tiled shower with glass walls and door as well. First question, does anyone know how to clear up the water stains on the glass and hard water deposits I guess it is? Second question, how about getting rid of mildew stains on the grout?

Tilex is the best! You just spray it on, wait about 5-10 minutes then rinse it off and all the mildew is gone.

Good luck!

CLR works great on shower doors and any bleach based product will get rid of the mildew. But, DO NOT mix the two!!! Be sure you rinse one completely before spraying the next. I do it the next day because the fumes can mix too. It will cause deadly fumes if they are mixed. For the surface of the tile, Soft Scrub with Bleach will get rid of any build up. Happy cleaning! PS. I have an 18 month old son:)

Hello. I have had great luck with Mr. Clean magic erasers for my glass blocks in the shower. I don't like to use chemicals and found this to be a great alternative.

i dont have any glass in my shower, but home depot has this cleaner for the tile. its made by zep its called Mildew remover. its really strong. i spray it on and let it set a few so it kills the mildew. then go rinse. if its really bad re apply and scrub a little then rinse. this stuff works better than any thing you can by in walmart.

There are many products out there - one that works
well is 'Tilex mold & mildew'. It is very stinky and strong,
spray & close the door to keep the smell inside, wait an hour or so and then go back in and rinse.
occasional use of Tilex mold and mildew also keeps the slimy stuff out of the sink drain and strainer in the kitchen sink, and its the only thing I know of that really works like that.

To get hard water deposits off a glass shower and ceramic tile, pour straight white vingar on a scrubbing sponge and rub the vinegar onto the glass and tile. Scrub the water deposits with the abrasive side of the sponge. The scum just melts off. Towel dry and you will have a sparkling shower. This works no matter how much of a build up there is. On the tile also try using Ajax or Comet.I hope this helps!

I had a cleaning business for a long time and cleaned a lot of homes that had been vacated and were getting ready to be sold. I came across many bathrooms that the realtor thought would have to have the shower or tub replaced and I was able to get them clean! The best product I have found to take care of both your issues and more is called CLR Bathroom and Kitchen Cleaner. It is in a yellow spray bottle. You can spray it on and let it sit for a while and then come back to very minimal scrubbing. It is absolutely amazing... I actually called the company the first time I used it and congratulated them on making a product that worked above and beyond my expectations. You need to make sure that you have good ventilation, if you have a window open it up and run the fan because it smells a little strong. You will also want to wear some cleaning gloves if you have sensitive skin. It should take care of your problem and once you have it cleaned I recommend that you buy the clean shower by Tilex - it's like a clear shower spray that you leave in the shower and when you are done with your shower just spray it on the glass door and tile. If you use it daily or at least a few times a week it will really help keep the scum from building back up. Hope this helps!!! Let me know if you have any other questions or cleaning dilemmas... I have a few more tricks up my sleeve :)

I found a product called Kaboom. They make sprays and gels and stuff for the toliet. With a little effort and a sponge, I've gotten it off. Once it's clean, I went and purchased one of those automatic shower cleaner, (I think Scrubbing Blubbles makes it) It keeps it smelling really nice and has kept the tiles and glass clean. I hate the water here in Florida, I had the same problem when I moved. Good Luck!

For quick clean ups, I prepour clorox bleach in a spray bottle and spray the mildew in my grouts with it and leave for about 15minutes. When i return the mildew is GONE!. For my shower door I learned from "realsimple" magazine a tip that I've been using for months now. Keep a spong nearby and inbetween cleaning you can use a now expensive shampoo that is poured directly onto the sponge, then use this to clean off the hard water stains and soap buildup. During cleaing I use regular dishwashing liq onto the sponge and gclean the doors with this. In between I use the shower door spray(spray and wash) this helps prevent the hard water build up until the next cleaning. :) Hope this helps.

B., not sure if you read Kathy M's response, but it's important to know what to use when you have young children in the home. Even if the children are not "in the room" when you use the product, it's not healthy for yourself, or any family member to use anything such as Tilex, Soft Scrub, or Bleach....read an excerpt from this page and you be the judge..

B.,
Good old Vinegar will clean that glass! Just wipe it down with a sponge or whatever, and then either use newspaper to dry it or those absorbent towels. Mine is so clear! Vinegar works so much better than the Windex and all other glass cleaners and it is natural and disinfects too....I sometimes use bleach on the grout.. Good luck.

Hi B., I know that it is hard to clean showers and to get rid of mold around the area but what I do is put Clorox in a spray bottle and mix it with a little bit of water and shoot. You have to do this after eveyone has taken showers of course and leave it there for the rest of the day. Apply as often as you need until it clears.
The other thing is to scrub with Comet or Ajax and brush in between the tiles. It is a hard job but one that never fails.
The glass you can clean with a mixture of vinegar and a little water too.
Well, hope this is helpful.
Have a great day.

Hello B.! Back a few yrs go I lived in an apt w/ hard water. I tried CLR & all of the advertised cleaners but nothing worked very well on the rust stains. One day while in a dollar store picking up some things I spotted another cleaner that only cost $1.00, I can't remember right off the name of it. I'm thinking it's called "Off" or something to that effect. It comes in a white sqeezeable bottle w/ a flip top. It says it's a bathroom cleaner or for toilets. But all u have to do is squeeze the cleaner around ur shower & walls. Very little scrubbing is needed. Just make sure u wear gloves b/c it's very iritating to skin. And be careful about colored surfaces & carpets...LOL...I found out the hard way that this stuff cleans alittle too well...LOL!! Good luck!!

My cleaning lady uses Fabuloso (the blue one) to clean my showers and they look brand new everytime. Sadly, she moved to another state, so my husband cleans them now. I bought him the same stuff and it really works nicely and smells really good. You can use it on anything so it helps keep down expenses when you can use one cleaner for everything.
As for the grout toothbrush and comet works well or use the clorox bleach pen. Just make sure you rinse it well afterwards, so it doesn't eat away at your grout.
Good luck and happy cleaning.

There's a cleaner called Purple Power (clean-rite brand -- I think there are some other cleaners out there with the same name) that I use to help get stains off of our white counter tops that might help whiten your grout.

for mildew, I use straight bleach and a squirt bottle (ironically the one they gave me in the hospital to wash with after Abigail was born)... i squirt a generous amount onto spots and let it soak onto the grout.

Sometimes that leaves a chalky wihite residue but the residue goes away after a few rinse downs. :O)

Please note: you can not mix straight bleach with any other cleaning soluvents, even items that say, "with bleach" I made that mistake!!! Toxic fumes will occur!

Hi! I am new to starting a fmily, and upkeep of a house, but I have tried everything under the sun to try to clean my bathtub/shower. In our house, there are no vents in the bathrooms, so mildew/mold is a big problem. I have found a savior! Tilex mold/mildew killer-with foaming root action, i believe. It's in a blue bottle, and keeps me from working so hard to scrub!

I have been using the magic eraser on my glass shower door and it is fabulous and on the tile grout as well to get out the mildew. But you can go to the tile section of Lowe's and they have a great variety of grout cleaners, that work. You just need a bristle brush and it comes out very nice and clean. :)
