I've been very lazy and now I have orange/black mold all over my shower! I need to clean it up but am very overwhelmed by the thought. What is the easiest way to tackle this problem?? Any suggestions for products that work well? Thank you!

What can I do next?

For starters, we have a glass enclosed shower and when you are finished with the shower, you squeegee the glass. Takes less than 5 minutes and saves a boatload of work later.

I LOVE the Comet bathroom cleaner. White spray bottle with green label. It works wonders. I spray my shower once or twice a week and leave it til the morning and there is never any scrubbing.

If you have buildup, it will take a while to break through it all but eventually you can. On any stubborn spots I use a grout brush (tile flooring dept of home depot about $2) and that is great.

Good luck

I can't tolerate bleach, so vinegar and work is my solution.

I second the vote for Tilex brand mold and mildew remover. There are several products all under the Tilex name so be certain you buy the mold and mildew remover. Be patient -- if it's really gotten deep into the grout it will take more than one or two treatments to bleach it out.

There used to be some products too that were shaped like pens and you could "draw" them onto mildewed grout and they'd penetrate it. Not sure if they are still around. It's not a white cover-up to paint over mildew, but a bleach treatment.

For the bottom and by the drain (where mine gets worst) I use an old towel soaked with straight vinegar and I let it soak for hours and hours until the crud just wipes off!!!!!

Bleach and a scrub brush work well for me.
Make sure the room is well ventilated (run the fan/vent).

Leave tissue (or paper towel or toilet paper) soaked in bleach on the moldy area overnight. Then scrub hard with something abrasive.

Put the shower curtain outside on the driveway or deck, and scrub with a solution of white vinegar and water. Use a stiff broom with a scrub brush attachment so you aren't on your hands and knees. If the mold is stubborn, use baking soda because it's more abrasive. When you finish one side, rinse with the hose. Flip the curtain and do the same thing on the other side. When you're all done cleaning, you can just do a final rinse of any dirt or leaves.

Both cleaners are very cheap and safe for the environment, so they can be hosed off and rinsed away. They are just as good, and probably better, than chemical cleaners.

Tub and Tile is the only thing that I've seen that actually kills the mold (not just discoloring it so it can come back). It's powered by natural citric acid so you need very little elbow grease. :)

I love Soft Scrub, personally (it smells bleachy and clean). Just lightly scrub it on there, leave it there for a while, and rinse. If the grout is still nasty, you can use Clorox Bleach pens. That will leave your grout sparkling white.
