She may not be ready for cereal. She may not like eating from a spoon. Just wait a few days or a week and try again.

When introducing a new feeding technique, try it when they have been up for a while, like at lunch time instead of breakfast.

There is no perfect time for each development.
Hang in there mom.

Keep trying... Sometimes it takes 20, 30 times of introducing something before a child will accept a new food.

My son was not ready for solid foods until 8 mos old. If she is not interested in cereal don't push, just continue to breast feed and give the cereal a try once in a while. As long as she is eating plenty of breast milk, gaining weight and having normal diapers then there is nothing to worry about! If you have concerns about her health, definitely talk to you pediatrician!

It's OK. She doesn't really need it yet. Some babies just don't take to solid foods right away. My son was over 8 months old when he finally relented and ate a decent meal. Now he's 20 months and eats more than an elephant.

Just keep offering it to her but don't pressure her (or yourself) to eat.

Relax. She's doing what is right for her body. There are no perfect standards.

Hi W.,

I added a little grape jelly for flavor. Taste of it yourself- it is some nasty stuff! The grape jelly gives it a little sweet flavor- but don't worry if she doesn't want to eat it. I agree with the other Moms- she doesn't NEED it yet- it is just a good habit to start her on.

I also warmed it up a little to take the pasty taste away.

Hope this helps!

I am not a proponent of giving cereal to babies. When my babies were old enough to pick up things from my plate or started doing that tongue rolling response, their first food was banana. After eating bananas for a while (it's not like they ate it all day and all the time, just when everyone else sat down to eat, the banana was his portion), I started slightly thawed frozen green peas.

The Cheerios type of breakfast cereal became a nice snack, especially when teething. In fact, the cold green peas were a good help with teething, they made the soreness feel better.

Anyway, follow your heart/instinct and your baby's lead is my advice.

Honestly, I didn't bother introducing food to my boys until they started trying to grab stuff off my plate. Even then, it took re-introducing the rice cereal over and over before they really got it. At first I tried starting with the cereal, which did not work AT ALL. Then I switched things up and would give them 1/2 bottle to take the edge off of their hunger, tried giving them a little cereal, and then finished off with the rest of the bottle. Things went much better for us after that, but every kid is different. Good thing is, it's just practice at this point. Nutritionally speaking, they don't really need anything but breast milk at 6 months.
