I am new to this, but I had Hellp Syndrome with my pregnancy a year and a half ago. I was wondering if any of you have had this, and if you still have the "band pain" around the ribs and back? My pain has not gone away since i had my son. i was hoping after a year my body would go back to normal, but it has not. All dr's swear this has nothing to do with Hellp, However, i had Severe pain for 6 days before they diagnosed me with Preeclampsia and hellp syndrome. So my liver was getting pretty bad before they discovered what i had and delivered my son in an emergency c-section. I was wondering if it's possible my liver is damaged from this. I am so frustrated with feeling sick all the time, and having no answers. Thank you all so much.

Have you been tested for auto immune disorders like Lupus? There is always an underlying core problem that drs never seem to want to look at. They might just try to treat symptoms.

i hate to sound like a broken record- but nutrition- check out WestonPrice.com- pregnacy takes so much in the way of nutrition and then you have symptoms of the lack there of.
Livers are amazing in their ability to heal.
Have you seen your chiropractor? Make sure everythign is where it is suppose to be.
best, k

Have you had your gall bladder checked. The gall bladder is near the liver. Problems with it can cause upper right quadrant pain.

V.,
I had HELLP syndrom with my first 2 children. I am on my 3rd and doing well so far (hoping not to get it again).
With the first, everything went away right after delivery. With the 2nd, I was on blood pressure medication for almost 2 years after before I got it back under control (but my liver and platelet were back to normal within a couple months). I believe it had to do alot with the fact that I took up running.
I did have the pain around the ribs for quite a while off and on as well. That probably lasted about a year after.
If you have not seen an Internist, I would highly recommend seeing one (rather than a family physician). Mine worked with me very well to make sure there wasn't any other underlying causes and that everything was back to normal. There are blood tests that will show whether you still have any liver issues. He gave me a ton of different blood tests and I even got some ultrasounds, CT scans, etc. He did look for things like gall stones, etc to be sure too. I am one that would rather have everything tested to be sure so I was happy to go through all the tests.
I really feel for you. I remember how bad I felt and how scared I was. Even if I could not pinpoint everything, for at least a year after and up till 2 years after, I just did not feel "quite right". It is hard to explain. I was so scared something else was wrong. Just having an Internist I could work with made me feel so much better.
And then when I took up running, that was it, I started to see my blood pressure level out more and started to get my energy back and my good feelings back.
I felt so good I was crazy enough to try for another. :) My HELLP syndrome did not occur til 37 weeks with both my kids so it is not the extremist case. But, I am now seeing a high risk doctor (I am at 24 weeks) and he has me on calcium 2 times per day. I swear my blood pressure has dropped 10 points and is better than it was before I got pregnant. Don't know if it is related but I am always looking for stuff like that to link to how my blood pressure is doing and how I am feeling. I do believe diet can help alot too. With the pains you are having, maybe spicey foods or something like that can trigger it. I know I really have to stay away from caffeine and pop as best as possible. It is just something to try to keep your eye on.
I am sure you will be feeling better very soon. Feel free to message me if you want to talk to me anymore about it. It is scary but if you work with your doctor you will be fine!

I too had HELLP syndrome with my first (and only) child. It happened very suddenly at 37 weeks and they diagnosed it quickly so thankfully, they were able to deliver her immediately and my case did not get too severe. My platelets returned to normal a day after delivery. I did have to stay on blood pressure medication for about 6 months after the delivery but then it returned to normal. My liver counts have also been normal since delivery but I still have rib pain as well and my daughter is almost 4! It isn't constant or extreme but it is annoying. I have had my gallbladder tested and an endoscopy as well as other tests but everything comes back normal. I too have wondered and asked if this could be related to the HELLP but the drs. assure me that it is not. Sorry I am not much help but just wanted you to know that there are others that had HELLP Syndrome with the same symptoms as you. I have all kinds of symptoms that I NEVER had before I had my daughter but the drs. tell me that it can't be related to the HELLP although to me, it seems coincidental. But like others have said - I do feel better when I am consistent with exercise and follow a good diet and I feel pretty confident that nothing is seriously wrong with me because I have had a lot of tests done and nothing major has shown up. I think you should find a good dr. and let them test some things like your gallbladder just to make sure that nothing else is going on. Hope you get better soon.
