You must try a formula called Nutramagen. I swear by this formula. My nieces and nephew went on it because of colicky symptoms and my son had projectile vomiting and hard to go to the bathroom. I suggested it to a lady for her grandson and she said it was the best thing to ever happen for him.

Get her off the formula she's on. Rumor has it, that the formulas for babies make the baby colicy, and lactose intollerant, and asthmatic.

Hi M.,
My baby had colic as well, I used to make a cup of tea of peppermint, ginger, and chamomile. I'd do about a 1tsp of peppermint, 1tsp of chamomile, and about 1/2 tsp of ginger, heat up some water and steep for about 10-15 min, let cool and then give her a 1/2 tsp about an hour or 2 before the crying started. If it doesn't work I would suggest uping the dosage a 1/4 tsp at a time. Catnip is also good for colicky babies. Hope this helps, it definitely helped us!

Good luck!!

There is hope! My son was a terror in the beginning and everyone said colic stops around 8-12 weeks. "Like a switch, it just stops." Well at 4 weeks I thought 8 weeks was a lifetime away! The truth is that there is no solution for colic. Just alot of rocking and walking and bouncing. I invested in a baby bjourne carrier. I would just pace around the house with him in there in the evenings during his worst time. A warm bath always soothed him after about 6 weeks. But honestly, around 8-9 weeks he quickly tapered off to colic-free!

As far at constipation, ask your doc about adding a small amount of prune juice to her bottle. I did this around 2 months, but ask for 1 month old. Also, the thermometer in butt does work too! Are you using formula? I used Enfamil Lipil and my doc said caused gas with the DHA-RA stuff. They said to switch to Nestle Good Start (purple can, not orange), it made a huge difference and costs much less! Then I was using liquid ready to feed and decided to switch to powder to save $. Well, I went to doc a week later cause baby was mega fussy all the time and screaming with gas pains. Turns out it was the powder. Liquid much easier on their bellies. Last advice, Dr. Brown's bottles eliminates air. Try them if you don;t have them. Best of luck! It does get easier... promise! My son is now 7 months and so much fun!

Hi there. You didn't say if you are breastfeeding or not. If you are breastfeeding, I just wanted to suggest cutting dairy out of your diet. I had a few issues and after talking to the doctor and cutting out dairy things were MUCH better. Hope that helps. I know it's stressful with a colicky baby. Hang in there. It's hard, but it will get better.

your baby could be having a intolerance to the formula or breast milk. Might try a formula that is not a milk or soy base. They are more expensive but well worth it.

Hi M.,
I went through everything for almost 3 of my daughter suffering from colic. I went through almost every formula. Nothing worked. I was talking to a friend who was a nurse at another pediatric office and she brought to my attention a prescription that might help. I tried it and that night, I saw the results. Ask your pediatrician about a pescription called Levsin. I am not sure if that is how it is spelled but they will know if you ask for it. Good luck..Take care, Jen

Hi. My daughter is now 2 1/2 but had always had trouble in the bowel area. she screams cauase it hurts. the dr. told me to give her kondremul which i did for 2 yrs. All it is , is mineral oil. IT helps them pass it without the pain. I have recently switched to plain mineral oil which is only $4.50 as opposed to the kondremul which is $12. I put about a teaspoon in one of her bottles a day and she goes pretty regular with no pain. Hope this helps.

Also, i dont' know where you are from, but i used to go to the store Whole Foods(middletown). I would buy Gripe water. It is all natural and made of ginger, fennel, and cammomile. It calms their stomach and breaks up gas pains. I swear by it. I would put it in her bottle at night before bed as she would wake up screaming. Walgreens has an orajel version of it called tummy soother and it 's cheaper and works just as good.

Good luck.

Hi M.

One of my sons had colic and had problems passing bowels too. The colics and gas would only get better by exercising his legs like this: Lye the baby on her back, bend on leg so the knee is gently pressed agaisnt her belly and the other leg is down. Then bend the other leg against the belly while the other leg is down. Alternate the legs so it looks like if she was "peddling a bycicle". Do this movement continuosly for at least 5 minutes and see if it helped. This type of exercise was the only thing that made my son stop crying. Some nights my husband and I would have to take turns and do it for as much as 45 minutes continuosly before the colic was gone.

You can also try gently rubbing her belly in a circle a few times a day to prevent the built up of gas.

Passing the stools got a little bit easier by switching to Isomil (a very mild) formula.

I hope this helps, but in any case just know that things do get better with time.

Are you nursing her or giving her formula? I nursed my daughter but would occasionaly give her formula if I had no way to nurse. The regular formula did the exact same thing to her. We only used Enfamil Gentlease and that solved her problems when she had formula.

My neice, who is four months old, had that problem...
First the doctor had my sister-in-law give her prune juice...t help with the painful bowels. Now she is on a different formula and she takes a liquid anti-reflux Rx. It has helped her greatly!!!

I know how you are feeling, My oldest had colic, she cried for 3 months,
First take her to the DR. Make sure the DR. Knows.
I switched My daughter to Lactose-free formula. that helped alot, but I recommend SOY formula, It is better for babies digestive system, (Soy milk is better for us too).
Her little belly probably cant handle the milk in regular formula, and as for the constapation, it probably is the Iron in the formula, Soy formula will help with the constapation too. You May want to use READY TO FEED FORMULA, It is all mixed for you, and it is thicker, It is a little more expencive, but it is a god sent to colic babies, (her belly may not like your water)
Another thing I did with my Daughter is, Someone told me to put her on her stomache. I did and It made a world of difference, I took everything out of her crib and layed her on her tummy and kept watching her, it was a miracle. Still today she sleeps on her stomache, she is 8yrs old,
As for the hiccups and throwing up, she may be drinking too fast, Use Playtex Nursers, they are wonderful, ya they are a pain in the butt, but it helps.
I think Just switching her to Soy formula, you may see a world of difference,
I know what you are going thru, I feel for you, it will get better. Send me and email if you want, ____@____.com
take care and God Bless, S.

Good morning,

My son had colic in the begining we felt hopeless he had a hard time going to the bathroom and cried alot!!(6-8 hrs a day). we had our son on milk based formula sence birth and had alot of problems so we did some research and talked to our doctor and switched him to soy fomula ( which is much gentler and easy to digest)and with in a week we saw a drastic change alot less crying and having a bowl movement was better. they say kids will grow out of colic so at 6 months we switched him back to milk base formula and he was fine some digestive systems are very senitive at birth. I hope this helps you out. Have a great day and cogradulations on your daughter.

Talk to your daughter's doctor you maybe able to try a different formula. The formula that worked best for my son was the generic Parent's Choice. Every parent has there own way of raising the child and is entilted to their own opion but formula has not hurt my son at all. He did not want to breast feed. We tried different formulas until we found one that worked. We are working on trying different stage 2 formulas at the moment. We used pear juice in the formula 1 oz to 3 ozs formula. I did one bottle a day or every other daya nd worked fine also the gas drops helped alot. You can get the little tummies or I get the generic onces at walmart or target that work just as good. My son used them when he was little and when he was transitioning over to solid food.

M.,
As a mother of 5 who has gone through it, with my 4th child I switched to Good Start Formula. At the time the pediatricians didn't know a lot about it because it it made by Nestles and not the pharmacutical companies. Anyway I tried it and it worked. Justin was so colicy it was the worst case my pediatricians had ever seen and within 48 hours their was such a drastic change the group was amazed. I also only used spring water to mix my formula, but that is because the water in our town is awful. Hope you try the Good Start and it helps for you like it did for my last 2 kids. They are now 11 and 8 and healthy as can be.
Hugs,
T.

Hi M.. Is she on formula? If so you might want to double check that you are mixing it right. You might also consider smaller feedings so she doesn't throw up. I know it's a pain to feed a baby more offen when they already want to eat every 2-3 hours, but it could help. If you are breastfeeding make sure you are getting enough fiber in your diet. That will affect her as well. If she is drinking from a bottle you can add 1 tablespoon of dark corn syrup to every bottle until she has a bowel movement. Once she has had a bowel movement put less and less corn syrup in each bottle until you aren't using it anymore. This was told to me by a doctor when my now 6 yr old was a baby. Don't worry about baby getting too much sugar. Dark corn syrup is unrefined, so the body does not digest it. That's what it works. Feel free to ask me for anymore help. I have 4 kids, so sometimes it feels like I've been through it all. Good luck!
