Haven't Gotten Period...

After the birth of my little girl, my periods got really wacky! I now currently only have a period twice(if I'm lucky) a year, sometimes only once, if at all. I wouldn't worry about it, having a baby changes your body in so many ways. Just be glad that you don't have to deal with the bleeding, the cramps, the expense of tampons and such. Take it as a blessing and don't worry so much. The Merina, may or may not, start to regulate you after about a mnth. I had one, however had to get it removed.

Just enjoy life.

C., I did not nurse my first son and my first period came almost 3 months after he was born (I also had postpartum bleeding for 2-3 weeks). My second son was breastfed and my period didn't come again until he was almost 9-months old. I know that it is very common for nursing moms to avoid periods for many months or even the entire time they are nursing. And every woman is different. In my case, it took several months for anything to happen, whether I was nursing or not. Hope that helps!

This happens to just about everyone. It's hormones. And if you're breastfeeding your period will be later. Plus you're on birth control. Your period may not come for a long time. I'm surprised your doctor didn't discuss this with you in advance. This is really common stuff and their shouldn't be this much mystery. You're fine.

After I had my son, it was well over a year before my period returned. I also breastfed which had a lot to do with it also. I wouldn't worry about not getting yours yet, I've known a lot of women not to get it for quite a few months even without breastfeeding also. Also cramps are not has strong too (well for me it isn't). Just enjoy this moment right now.....he he he. Good Luck!!

Darling, I didn't get mine back for 9 months after my daughter. Be SUPER thankful that you don't have to buy feminine products on top of diapers at the store yet. Plus, any birth control you may be on will influence that as well. I have a Mirena in and probably won't have any sign of a period except for the occassional spotting. I am glad that I only have to have a small box of panty liners on hand for those days instead of worrying about whether or not I have enough on hand to make it through a period.

It is truely a blessing that you haven't had your period yet, relish it! Oh, and don't be fooled, just because you haven't had a period, doesn't mean you can't get pregnant. Be careful about that!

After reading through a bunch of the other responses, I have to say that, in my experience, breastfeeding had nothing to do with it! My sister breastfed and she started 3 months after giving birth. I breastfed and started 9 months later. My sister breastfed to about 6 months, whereas I bf until about 15mo for my daughter and 13mo for my son.

Just give your body time to recover. It has been smashed, contorted and dragged through the dirt for nine months; then it all ended within an day. It is trying to figure out what is going on. Everyone is different and we all recover differently. Don't worry about it at all!

I had my son 14months ago and have just recently had my first period although I am nursing, but when I asked my doctor he said it was nothing to worry about even if I wasn't nursing because my body was still healing and carrying a around alot of pregnancy hormones. Unless you are breastfeeding it takes at least six months for the all to go away. I also only bleed for two weeks and barely my first day after the baby was the only day it was heavy after that it was only spotting I don't think you have anything to worry about but you can always put a call in and ask you doctor's office for reasons why this may be happening just for reassurance.

I nursed so it may be different but I did not have a period for about two years after my daughter was born. If the pregnancy test came back negative then I would not stress over it and enjoy being period free for the time being.

Well to me that is normal, I went through the exact same thing, I had my son Aug 22, 2006..... And like you said I bled for a couple weeks after having him. at my 6 week check up I decided to go on Merina, I still hadn't had an actual period, and then 2 weeks later they put in the Merina, I spotted for 2 days extremely light, and then nothing. I am still on it and still have never had a period, including the time I was pregnant, I haven't had one in 2 years.... and trust me I am not complaining lol. Some women that go on Mirena continue to have theirs monthly, what I call the lucky ones like myself and it sounds like you, never get one again as long as they have it in. Sounds like the only difference in our story is that I breastfed for the first 13 months, but even after stopping I still have never had one.... Hope this helps you feel a bit normal about the situation, enjoy the freedom of not pads or tampons lol!!!

Have you nursed or are you nursing? That may be why you haven't had your period yet.

i had a similar problem after my daughter was born. I was so stressed. you could have bounced quarters off me most of the time. if you are stressed - even if you don't realize you are stressed, your body knows - it will throw off you cycle resetting to normal again.

if you are breastfeeding, you won't get a period again most likely till you stop breastfeeding. when i had my son, i didn't have a period for 15 months (9 months of pregnancy and 6 months of breastfeeding). this is normal too.

i gave birth to my son Aug 13 of this yr and also had my period for about 2 1/2 weeks and till this day I still haven't gotten it but the only difference is that I am breastfeeding. But then again everyones body is different in many different ways. Are you still taking the prenatal vitamions ?? If so ...maybe it could be that.

I had my baby 07/07/07 and still havent had a period. Apparently breastfeeding helps keep them away! yah for breastfeeding!!

I agree with Christine. I have Merina and had the heavy period after giving birth. After about six months, it went to just spotting. I am so happy of having this BC since I don't have to take the pill anymore! I'm very surprised that the doctor didn't mention it to you (about the Merina and the periods) but will still give you a pregnancy test?!? Plus, they do a check up there before they put the IUD inside. If I remember correctly, they check for any "leftovers" of the placenta and other abnormalities after birth all BEFORE they will even give you BC (whatever type). I don't see you mentioning that, so I would assume that the doctor didn't advise you on that... which is also questionable.

Please don't forget (not sure if anyone else mentioned this) but your body is under so much stress from being prego, to giving birth, to going right back to normal. That is very h*** o* anyone's body and can totally turn your hormones wacky and make things go out of sync for a while.

My mom did when my little brother (now 28) was born. They left cotton in her v** canal and when she went to complain about the lack of period, they examined her and took it out. Periods as usual after that. As a side note, she had a hysterictomy 15 years later due to fibriod tumors. So my advice to you is get it checked out. Accidents happen and maybe your doctor forgot something with you as well. I'm sure it's something else in your case but better safe than sorry, I say.

After I had my son, I was not breastfeeding, or on Birth control and i did not get a period for 10 months. I also bled for only a couple weeks after having him. Now, almost a year after my first period after my daughter I stay on it for 15 days every month!!

after I gave birth to my daughter I bleed for almost 2 weeks. then I had the Mirena IUD placed and bleed for 6 weeks straight and now NO PERIODS at all (its great). with the Mirena everyone is different. It works by delivering a very small amount of a progestin (20 mcg of levonorgestrel) directly on the inner wall of the uterus. This dose is approximately the same dose as taking two or three mini-pills a week. The major side effect of hormonal IUD use is abnormal v**inal bleeding. Some women have unpredictable, light menstrual flow, while many may have no flow at all. Missing periods or irregular bleeding is common in the first few months, followed by shorter lighter periods, maybe some spotting or nothing at all. After Mirena is placed, you may experience heavier periods over the first 3 to 6 months because the lining of your uterus is shedding. This may also result in irregular periods such as “spotting” (a small amount of blood loss) or light bleeding outside of your monthly period. Remember, these menstrual changes are not harmful. The reason you may eventually have a shorter period, or one with little or no menstrual flow, is because of the thinning of your uterine lining. When Mirena is removed, your uterine lining and menstrual cycle will return to the way they were before you used Mirena.Not having your period while you are using Mirena is not abnormal. Nor is it harmful or anything to worry about. Most common side effect included (remember not everyone will experience any of this side effect, it varies on each individual): Menstrual changes
Lower abdominal pain (cramps),Acne or other skin problems,
Back pain, Breast tenderness, Headache, Mood changes, Nausea
Ovarian cysts have been diagnosed in about 12% of Mirena users. In most cases, the enlarged follicles disappeared spontaneously during two to three months of observation.
