Have You Bought Furniture Online Before?

Hello.

I'm in the process of looking for furniture. I'm trying to finally find furniture for my master (got the bed, but never the chest etc.), a couch for my new renovated basement and some table by the foyer. It's a lot, but I haven't bought anything in like 8 years so it adds up.

I'm going to visit the traditional stores near me (national and local to N. Va.), but I've also looked at online stores like Wayfair and Joss and Main. Has anyone bought a chest of drawers or a couch online? I'm especially skeptical of a couch since you can't decipher its comfiness, but a chest or accent table?

Love to hear your thoughts if you're bought online or have heard of others.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

We bought my daughter's bed set off of craigslist, and then her mattress off of the internet, we ordered it and picked it up in store. That mattress has been the softest, best mattress ever, I sort of wish it was mine. I would probably want to try a couch out before buying, but I liked having other people's reviews on the mattress before I hit "buy".

I recently bought an area rug from Joss and Main, and I have to say I was quite disappointed with it. While the quality was awesome, the color was quite different from what they showed online. It is more of a mint green, but it looked more like a sage green on their website. I would be very wary of color variations if you decide to buy something from them. You can't return most of their stuff.

I have bought several pieces of furniture from Pottery Barn online, and it has been mostly positive experiences. The one time I bought a coffee table from them that turned out to be a much lighter brown than what was pictured in the catalog, they took it back and gave me a full refund, including the shipping.

You might want to check out the furniture at costco.com. If you have any problems with your purchases, they will refund your money, including shipping. I'm pretty sure you have to take it all back to the store yourself though. Good luck!

I bought my couch online from Carolina Chair dot com. It is awesome! I bought it in 06.
I ordered a china cabinet online from another site and I love it, too. I always make sure that shipping is included in the price or that the shipping is reasonable.
Good luck!

I have! I bought a Hutch I saw in a store, but then found at a Carolina outlet store..... so no real guess work there. I also bought two tables that I only viewed online. One was wood and one was granite. No regrets!

I have had great experiences with Overstock.com, for both a chair and end tables. We also bought white dressers from Samsclub.com, sight unseen, and couldn't be happier.

I wouldn't have any hesitation about hard furniture, but the sofa would pose a problem. In addition to the comfiness and color concerns, hubs is big and tall, I am petite and short. Seat depth, and back height is a big issue when choosing a couch that might fit both of us well.

Good luck to you and yours,

Hi, Michelle:

I bought book shelves on line.

Shop around at thrift stores in your area.
Good luck.

I've bought solid wood bookcases and our sofa bed online. If you see something you like online, chances are that a chain like Bob's or Marlo has it. Then you can test drive it in person before buying from an online vender with the price you want.

Read the reviews on each piece you're considering as they should give you good insight as to the comfort. Also, they will tell you if the color is accurate, etc.

I have purchased from Overstock before - butcher block island and leather recliner. They were both what I expected and delivery is a lot less than from the store.

I have bought bar stools from Ballard Designs. Loved them so much I ordered 2 more when we moved and got more space. I've bought a few small pieces from Ballard as well and have been really happy with everything. I have not bought from Joss and Main but have a friend that bought an ottoman and was thrilled with it. I've been looking around for one that I like and will probably buy 1 from there soon. Just be sure to measure your space carefully to make sure what you order will fit. The problem with online is sending it back if you don't like it or it doesn't fit!

Check out Ikea in Woodbridge, great inexpensive and pretty accent tables and the hemnes collection of drawers does not disappoint. Also have a couple furniture stores out there. Lazy Boy in Kingstowne has great couches! I think they should deliver to your area. I agree with the other poster about coloring not being the same as what you see online.
Have fun shopping!
