My hand has been hurting for a week now and it seems to be getting worse day by day and the bruising and swelling tends to be getting pretty bad. i went to a sports medicine doctor on tuesday, and he said that is was just a tiny hairline fracture, but it seems like it would be worse than that. What should I do, because I can barely do anything with my hand?

the only thing i would suggest besides talking to your doctor is to keep moving it. when and however possible without doing further damage. I had a sprain a few years ago and docs told me to not to move it, not to move it. and I ended up with this nerve issue and have chronic pain. I wont even say what it is cause I don't wish it upon anyone. just trust your gut, if you feel something is wrong keep asking questions and keep moving however possible. it your body and you knows whats best. good luck

if you're not breastfeeding google Serrapeptase u can get it cheap if u go thru ebates.com then vitacost.com cost about $13
it will help u heal faster..its also a blood thinner so if u have problems w/ bleeding u can't take it. it has to be taken on an empty stomach for best results..also up your vitamin C intake.
u also may want to ask a nutritionist at Wholefoods if there's anything else u can do..
unfortunately i don't think there is a lot u can do for hairline fracture..got one as a child..they bandaged it but no cast.
sleep w/ it elevated..ice..and try taking the things i said and also google what u can do for an injury like that.

Did the Dr x-ray it? You didn't specify. If not, then go to another doc for an x-ray. If he did and confirmed that it's a hairline fracture, what did he advise you to do? Heat, ice, immobilize, move it?????? Painkillers? If he didn't discuss all of these issues with you call him back; get the answers you need. Also find out how long to wait before following up if your condition doesn't change or gets worse.

My son fractured his elbow last year and it pretty much hurt as much as a break (my daughter broke her leg the previous year and they both howled with pain about the same) and it was treated by our bone doctor like it was a break with a cast and all. Try not to use your hand too much, ice it and elevate it if that is what your doctor is recommending, and give it a chance to heal. A hairline fracture is a break nonetheless, just not a complete break. It's going to take some time and TLC to heal.

Feel better soon.

Physical therapy immediately.. It could be RSD which can spread and get worse... move the hand.

I had a spiral fracture on the middle bone of my hand about 12 years ago. It was sooo painful! If I just barely touched my fingers, it about took my breath away. They missed the fracture in the ER, then the next two days, it turned green, etc and was VERY painful. Two days later the ER called me back and told me they had re-examined my x-rays and that there WAS a break. So I had it casted for about 6 weeks. At the very least you should have it in a brace.

there is homeopathic remedy called Symphytum. Heals the fracture, helps with the pain and swelling. you can get it from Whole Foods, but if 30C does not do the trick, need to see professional homeopath of chiro who uses homeopathy.
Good Luck

I have recently recovered from a minor stress fracture in my elbow and for the first few weeks I was also convinced there must be more wrong! My doctor didn't cast it either, and I kept wondering if he was missing something. But it really just took time. I wrapped mine snuggly in an ace bandage when I needed to do things (like driving) and that helped give it extra support. Elevate it whenever you're resting. Two months later and I finally have full movement and no pain. Back to normal! But the first month, like you, I experienced a lot of pain and ongoing swelling. So all I can say is to take care of yourself and be patient... not what you want to hear I'm sure, as a busy mom!

I agree - you should go for an X-ray and then have your hand set in a cast that just holds your fingers in place. I had a hairline fracture on my right pinky. It hurt a lot for the first week. I had it x-rayed right away at the emergency room and they set it in a temporary splint then I went to the sports Medicine doctor who set it in a plastic hand cast that strapped my ring finger and pinky in place. I had to wear it for 3 weeks but I was able to take it off to shower. I had to learn to write and eat left handed. The first week someone had to cut my food for me. Then I went to physical therapy to work on loosening up the joints and muscles. If you get it set and don't use it for a couple of weeks it will get better.

Good luck! I hope you feel better soon!
