Great Teacher Gift Ideas

Hi All,
My son has a long-term sub as his K teacher - the regular teacher went on maternity leave 3 weeks into the school year and took the entire year off. This has turned out great because the long-term sub is a really really good teacher, and my son's kindergarten experience has been excellent.

I'd like to get her a nice teacher gift for the end of the year. But, something classroom related won't work, because it's highly unlikely that she'll have a classroom next year - at least not in my district. Positions are hard to come by, and the district is downsizing, not hiring.

Any ideas?

What can I do next?

If she will be looking for a teaching job sometime a handwritten note is a must. She can put it in her portfolio!

As a former teacher and wife of a teacher, I've always thought a hand-written note of thanks and a gift card were the most appreciated (and useful)!

I always give gift cards they can use to "reward" themselves for a great year, like restaurant gift cards, Visa check card, etc.

Whatever you choose as a gift, given her employment situation, she will certainly appreciate a thank you letter that she could take on interviews with her. Be as specific as possible about what you and your son loved about his kidnergaten experience. And let her know that any district would be lucky to have her!
I included thank you notes from parents and students in my portfolio when I went on teaching interviews. Often the students and parents know more about what is happening in a classroom than busy administrators do, and they can let potential employers know when a teacher goes above and beyond what is expected.

Get her a gift card and a hand written thank you note. If you can only afford $5, no problem. If you feel like you want to give more, no problem! I don't know about others, but I'm a teacher and I'm just as grateful for the $5 Starbucks card as I am for the $100 one!

A note that says how much you've appreciated all she's done for the class, a note from your son and a gift card (maybe even a visa card she could use anywhere).

+1 for a handwritten note and gift card. I always like to give my son's teachers gift cards that they can use to do something special for themselves (a manicure, a massage, coffee, etc.). The Visa card idea is good, or you could also get one from your local mall.

I answered a similar question recently, here's the link for more ideas: http://www.mamapedia.com/questions/7310735347372195841

That was for teachers appreciation week. Today was the last day of school so I had my daughter draw and color/glitter whatever she wanted on a piece of cardstock and then I wrote a note on the inside and had her sign it. I also put her school picture in there.
