Front Loading Washer/dryer

We just got the LG front loaders, the washer does sanitizing and it's big enough to wash a king sized comforter...awesome because on the weekends, I only do like 2 loads of laundry, one light, one dark! DONE!
Thanks other moms for the advice on leaving the door open because of mold. I wondered about that last week, I hope I don't have a moldy washer when I go to do lanundry this week!

I have a Maytag front-loading washer and dryer. They are less than three years old, and we just had to replace the motor in the washer two weeks ago. When the guy from Sears came to fix it, he said that Whirlpool was the brand to buy for washers and dryers. I know that you said that you had all ready decided on an LG, but after the pain of spending 4 hours at the laundromat w/ a 9-month-old, I wanted to share this information. Whatever you get, be sure to check the warranty (or at least know where it is) because even though our warranty was supposed to cover the motor, they kept trying to tell me that it wasn't covered anymore. Luckily, I had the paperwork to prove it! Good luck!

We have LG washer and dryers and everything about them is great except that they really vibrate a lot and shake my house.... I used to work in the appliance dept and that is a common concern, especially on the 2nd floors. Also do keep the door open after wash as well to prevent mold as everyone suggested. There has been nothing but good reports on the steam (consumers and consumer report magazines)

Yes make sure you can leave the washer door open after using or your washing machine develops an odor due to the inside being wet all the time (mold).

I have the Duet Steam washer and dryer set. I LOVE them. The steam wash function is fantastic - you can get grass, blood, etc out of whites without bleach. The sheets and towels really seem to benefit as well. The steam dryer only steams on 2 of the 8 or 9 cycles, both of which are "refresh" cycles (like if you left the clothes in the dryer overnight when they were done). The Duets have a dedicated water line running to the dryer, but the LG I believe has a cup you need to fill with water (like the detergent cups on the washer). I have a friend at work with the LG set and she is just as happy as I am with my Duet Steams. If you've got the extra cash, go for it.

We have the LG set but not the steam dryer. I just don't trust a machine that's supposed to make things dry to have a water line going to it. Call me nuts but, with my luck, something would go wrong. I do LOVE the machines though. For me, since I work full-time, the delay start option is perfect on the washer so I can put in a load and have it be done when I get home so the wet clothes don't sit in the washer all day. We also have the drawer/stands and they have tons of space so they come in really handy.

WE have an LG front loader, no steam options. Only a couple pieces of advice; use powder detergent only and allow the inside of your washer to dry after doing multiple loads, or you will get mold on the rubber part. Just leave the doot open for an hour or so.

We have an LG and like them a lot. I did not spring for the steam washer - couldn't see a good reason to do that. I did get the one with an on-board water heater so that we have a "sanitize" cycle, because we cloth diaper and every once in a while they could use a little boost. They clean terrifically well and since we do a LOT of laundry (2 kids + 2-3 loads of diapers/week) they've been put through the paces. I'm not sure what the point of the steam cycle is.

I did a lot of research (mostly from Consumer Reports) before we got ours. We used to have some cheap-o kennmore front-loaders and they did ok cleaning but were LOUD (no good when they're next to your kitchen). These are waaaay quieter, and they clean better.

I absolutely hate my front loading washer!!!! The dryer is OK. What I wish I would have thought about before purchasing this vs. a top loading washer, is that you cannot adjust your load size at all and you cannot stop the washer to have something soak in bleach for a while. Plus, when the spin cycle comes on, if you do not have enough items in the load and it is not balanced, the washer makes a lot of noise and shakes(It acts like it is going to take off because it spins soooo fast). Mine are not on pedestals either. Sometimes it will stop and then you have to put it through another spin cycle. If I could sell mine right now and get a top loading washer I would. I used to love the option of just washing a small load, like delicates etc. Now I cannot do it. I know people claim that front loaders get your clothes cleaner, but I disagree! Alot of times, my clothes still have stains even with stain spray and hot water, and are many times still very wet when I go to put them in the dryer. So of course this makes them stinky with mildew. And then the inside of the washer smells as well so you have to leave the door open all the time. These are things to consider before you purchase. I just had to tell you because I wish someone would have told me!!!UGH!
