Um, I don't know if I'm going to answer your question correctly or not, but...

You can always make your daughter a bottle of 6 oz, then feed her what she wants to eat and refrigerate the rest. If she is hungry an hour later, just warm it up. If she doesn't drink it by the end of the day then you can throw it out. That way you won't be wasting it at every feeding, but maybe only an ounce or two a day.

But the other moms' advice also sounds great for feeding guidelines! HTH

Babies are constantly changing and sometimes your daughter may want more than at other times. Feed her when she is hungry and feed her as much as she wants. Don't worry what the books say. If she is hungry, she knows how much she needs to be satisfied. My oldest son was very scheduled and ate mostly the same amount at each feeding. He is still a very scheduled oriented child, but my second son is so different. One feeding he would take 3 oz. and the next 5 oz. Guess what? He is still NOT a scheduled little guy. I think this is one of the biggest questions that I had too! No one ever had a good answer for me, so I muddled my way through it. My daughter is 7 1/2 months old now....and thriving. Once you figure out the formula, then you add solids----and start all over!

One note that I took in a parenting class at Harris Hospital said "Feed a baby the same ounces as the age of the baby in months + 2 oz.)". I didn't find that this worked for me. My daughter spit up a lot in the beginning. Around 3 to 4 months old, she was drinking 4 oz bottles every 3 hours. Now, at 7 1/2 months old, she is drinking 5 oz. bottles every 3-4 hours. And, she takes a 7 oz bottle at bedtime along with some cereal and fruit.

I truly believe that every baby is different, and you have to take cues from your baby. I tried asking some friends of mine about how much to feed my daughter, and ending up over feeding her, and she would spit up. My friend told me to feed my daughter 7 oz at 4 months. WAY TOO MUCH!

I agree on what everyone says also I think you go by their weight. I have a premie who today is 2 months old and the dr. always tells me how much by is weight. Even though he is huge now 12 lbs. He only takes 4oz a feeding she said between 4-6oz I am like you and don't want to waste formula so I fix 4 if he wants more than I will warm a little more. Goodluck with your new baby.

I have a Day Care at home and the guide is for 0-3 mo 4-6 oz but for 4-7 oz it is 4-8 oz 8-11 mos 6-8 oz
I believe also to feed them as they let you know. Who wants to listen to an upset baby?

Also the guide and this is a guide. Feedings are Breakfast,am snack,lunch,pm snack,diner, evening. Once children are on this schedule it then goes to meals and snacks and these are what Day Cares follow as well. So they are in that routine. We are striving for children who are healthy in mind, spirit,physical and getting good diets that contain antioxidants in fruits and vegges as well as a balance in dairy and grains. So some babies are ready for infant food early others wait but the guide for that is make sure they can use their tongue to shove it back and control that for choking reasons. They just are not ready too early. G. W

i totally understand. I have this same issue with my two month old. She typically will take 3 oz every two in a half to three hours however, at times she will SNACK and take an ounce here and an ounce there. Her pediatrician says this is normal and that for her age, she should be taking a minimum of 3 ounces. So i am ASSUMING that at three months it should be a minimum of 4 ounces. Have you checked with her pediatrician?
