Felons and Work

Tell her to write out an affidavit about the felony, how it occured, the circumstances and what she did to pay off the debt to society. If she went to dwi school afterwards and recieved a certificate of completion she can be prepared to show that at interview time. Don't apply for jobs that require her to do any driving for the company. She may not be just getting turned down due to the felony, maybe her resume isnt all that great and needs some sprucing up. Doing volunteer work inbetween jobs is also useful to make a resume look better.
Best lesson from this is to learn from other's mistakes. Having a felony or a bad credit score plays a big part in our futures, it's important to believe that at a young age and not put yourself into a position to detriment our future.
This is why you shove that type of info down your young childrends throats as soon as they are old enough to realize what you are talking about. An ounce of prevention goes a long, long way.
Your friend might hire a lawyer to see if she can have that taken off of her record.... the couple of hundred bucks to do so might benefit her in the long run. Look into that.

FYI--most jails have some sort of "back to work" informational program that she can investigate.
No lie--it's going to be really tough.
The best thing (and I don't know her quals or what type of work she's looking for) for her to do is check "yes" to the question "Have you ever been convicted of a felony?" and write "will gladly discuss!" in that area.
Honestly, I think her own business is the way to go.
I believe companies MAY get a tax credit for hiring ex-offenders.
I have *heard* that UPS is O. company that hires ex-offenders.
I can't speak for TX, but she can look for resources at shelters, etc in her area.
It's a sad situation in which many ex-offenders find themselves--they have paid their debt to society and then they are not "hire-able" after that's over. In many ways, that label is going to follow her.

Finding a job right now is really hard for everyone. However, I assure you that many, many felons are employed. A bank may not want to hire her if she had a felony embezzlement conviction, you get my point.
She just needs to be honest about what happened. It should not prevent her from being able to get hired completely.

Has she tried jobs like medical offices things of that nature. Like maybe a dental office or chiropractor or eye doctor. Places like that usually don't require back ground checks. Or maybe this could jump start a new career like getting her Real Estate license. Something to think about

some jobs only hold violent and theft crimes against you. which she has neither. so tell her not to give up.

I would suggest starting at restaurants and pubs. Maybe not the best thing if she is struggling with alcohol but I know most eateries hire regardless of past criminal history.
