I am at a loss as to what to give as favors at my son's 2nd birthday party. Last year I gave out key chains with pictures of my son, and they seemed to be a big hit, and I had gotten balloons for the few kids that were there. It's going to be the same guest list as last year, mostly older family members, but there will be 5 children ages 18 mths to 10 years old both boys and girls. So I would be looking for another inexpensive idea that would appeal to both the kids and adults. Oh and we are doing a Handy Manny theme. Thanks for your help.

What can I do next?

Hello B.,

What do you think about Growth Charts with or without personalizations of the kids names on it. It kinda goes with the theme with tools, etc.. and maybe a ruler, again with or with their names on it. I know that you can get inexpensive ones through the lillian vernon catalogs. good luck and have fun!

There were lots of great ideas!
I thought I'd add one more. My kids have received a burned cd as the gift. You could put on some Bob the Builder songs and some other kid friendly songs. Good luck!

We just went to a birthday party yesterday and they gave out $5 gift cards to Barnes and Noble. I thought that was a great idea in place of candy and junk. We have also gotten Rita's dollars which was a big hit!

For one of my kid's younger birthday parties, I handed out bottles of bubble bath to each child. I used those really cute ones with 3D character heads over the lid. They were pretty cheap and everyone loved it.
Another idea would be if you had a Five Below store near you. Sometimes they have some pretty neat things in there. I typically get all my party favors for my kids' birthday parties from there. Evreything in the store is $5 or less and again they have some cool stuff(not all junk).

not sure when the party is - but my daughters bday is end of october and i am always looking for things that aren't candy so i totally understand -here are some things that i have done that have gone over well:

1. wendys and mcdonalds BOTH sell coupon books for $1 each that are good for like 10 small frostys or fries - thats a big hit with even my nephew in hs
2. right now bjs/giant everywhere really has mini playdoh containers in bulk - they are great too
3. "make and take" - basically find a cheap craft/crafts then set up a table where they can make them and take them home - it occupys time and creates its own favor
4. another thing i did one year - now i work at Childrens place so this was slightly cheaper for me - but if you go to outlets and/or look around you can find something similar - i got sunglasses for each child - this tme of year you could find tshirts cheap; or halloween stuff is going onsale; or somethhing like that
thats all i can think of right now -

For my daughter's 2nd birthday I made up coloring books for the kids. It was really easy too. I looked on line for pictures that would br fun to color (Noggin has great chioces). I made a cude cover for her birthday, printed them out, bound them at Kinkos (real cheep) and got some crayons from the dollar store. It was such a hit, the kids were still talking about it more than 4 months later! Good luck to you!!!

Hi B.! :)

I have a great idea! How about custom marble magnets that go along with your Handy Manny theme? I have an online shoppe where I make custom magnets. I could put text on them if you wanted to include your child's name or perhaps the phrase "Happy Birthday!" I also have gift tins that I could coordinate with your theme too. Magnets are great because people keep them forever. I've made custom sets for baby showers and weddings before. Here's my shop link: http://thepurplepear.etsy.com. If you're interested, I can work with you to come up with a quote.

Sincerely,
C.

I just had my daughter's 2nd bday party and we had Dunkin Donut Gift Cards $2 each for her favors - BIG HIT and EASY!!
You could always do McDonald's. I taped a note to each card saying "Thank you for coming to my party. Enjoy a treat at Dunkin Donuts! Hope this helps!

B.,
I have always disliked getting and giving the standard 'treat bags" filled with junky little items, so for O. party, I bought BIG Hershey chocolate bars and designed my own label with "Thank you for coming, etc" and was able to tape it right over the label so they looked like personalized candy bars. It was a hit. Good luck!

Cute themed cookies appeal to everyone. Maybe you could get cookie cutters in the shapes of a hammer, ruler, etc.
