Favorite Places to Walk in the Western Suburbs

I would love to take my kids on more walks, as our neighborhood is getting to be very busy, and the cars drive too fast. I want to give my 3 yr old more opportunities to walk with me, and would like to be able to let my 15 month old out of the stroller from time to time.

We live near the Oak Brook area, but can travel a bit for a great place.

Where do you take your kids to walk?

What can I do next?

Morton Arboretum!! and Prairie Path.

...and Peck Farm (Geneva), Klein Creek Farm (Winfield), Lake View Nature Center (Oakbrook Terrace), along the River in Galena.

(I'll keep adding as I think of places. We live near a local HS and we walk on the track there too. Maybe your local HS would be something to investigate.)

Brookfield Zoo is great. Also my kids love walking along the Cook County Forest Preserve paths. When they were younger, they loved to look in the creek for ducks and their babies, deer in the trees. The only problem we ever had was jerk bicyclists that used the path as a training path. The rules for the paths state no racing. We have never gotten hurt and most people are very respectful and let you know they are coming.
