Fix the two of them a special meal (or take them to a favorite restaurant) and buy or make a special card for each of them. You say your Dad is a family man. I'm guessing your husband is too. If they are like my husband, they'll tell you the most important thing for them is to spend the day with family. Unless you can come up with some item that they really need or want, a gift is not necessary.

I got an iPad for mother's day and love it so I second that idea. My husband got himself a digital camera for FD. On the less pricey side, I am going to have our 5 year old work on a book for him. I will help her write some things in it and draw pictures of things they like to do together, of him and her, etc. You could also print out some photos of your kids and their dad and/or grandpa and help them make a scrap book for them. There are also kits at craft stores for stepping stones, mugs, etc. w/ photos of the kids.

My wife and kids gave me a T-shirt with "We love you Dad" and all my kids fingerprints in paint on the T-shirt about 25 years ago. Its been washed and worn many times and the fingerprints and words are still there. I still value it very dearly.

Good luck to you and yours.

My kids are little so we went to Petroglyphs and made dad a coffee mug. It's so ugly but I know he will love it and use it each morning.

Sounds to me like an all out gourmet BBQ and family time with a special desert would be great! Who needs to stress about shopping when these days if we want something we go get it. But you can't buy family time.

Does he have an iPod or iPad? Both are extremely useful even if they are a bit spendy in the beginning.
Do either of the men in your life have a hobby?
My father collected coins. In my travels I would bring home coins from other lands and save them for father's day. I asked a friend working in Japan to bring home coins from Asia. He was thrilled to get them.
You could get your father a Nook or a Kindle.
