I thought this would be a good post since Father's Day is just around the corner. Whenever buying my husband a gift, I struggle trying to think of something creative/unique. I get tired of buying the same old thing. List what you are planning to give, or have given in the past here.....

Wow - so many great ideas. Thanks so much for sharing. I think I've decided on getting him an OSU cornhole set. We have a family member who can make the boxes for us, then I will paint them to look like an OSU helmet, so it will be relatively inexpensive. If you've never played, it is SO much fun! I also love the idea of our daughter holding the letters to spell out "DAD" in a frame and am making him a CD with daddy/daughter songs.

I started a tradition with my 4 yr old, and now my newborn to make dad a dad's day t-shirt with their (her) footprints or handprints on it, with captions that say things like "these feet walk all over me" or " best dad ever" etc. They are cooky, but he wears them with pride! and one day I plan on cutting them all up and making a t-shirt quilt out of them that he can cuddle up with when the girls are "too old" to cuddle with. :) and he can remember back.....

The gift my boyfriend liked best was when I got tickets to a White Sox game. You can get great seats at StubHub.com. To theme the gift I also bought matching hats for them to wear to the game together.
Just think hard about what he's really interested in and you'll think of something great.

Among other things, my husband wants a grilling plank. We have a gas grill so some flavor is lost compaired to a charcoal grill. They make pine, cedar, cherry, etc... planks that you put things like fish on to grill to add flavor.

Hi A.,
A friend of ours gave her husband a lesson with a golf pro (private) for his birthday in the fall. My husband actually said that was what he wants for his birthday or Father's Day (they are 2 weeks apart). We usually give him golf certificates for one of the local courses. You could do something like this for any sport your husband enjoys.
Have a great Memorial Day!

I take photos of the boys dressed in dad's dress shirt & tie, standing in his big shoes. Fun to see how the 10 year-old has so much leg showing beneath, while the 3 year-old's shirt is dragging so much you can't see the shoes! I had a series of 3 framed last year.

What does he enjoy doing? If he likes golf then a gift certificate to the local course is always good. Fishing? A subscription to a fishing magazine. Bowling? Again a certificate to a local alley. Baseball? Tickets to a game. I am sure you get the picture.
One year I bought some pocket tee shirts and had the children dip their hands in paint and put hand prints on the front and back of the shirts with their names (their own hand writing naturally) under the prints for the dad and grandfathers.
I had a friend give her husband a romantic night away from home and children for just the two of them. They went to dinner, I can't remember if it was dancing or a movie, and a night at a hotel for just mom and dad. Her husband talked about it with friends and family for a couple of years because it had meant a lot to him to just have time with her away from home, chores, and the children so they could reconnect.

I have the same problems with my son's father he likes a lot of different things but it's usually gagets or other expensive stuff that I don't have the money to buy. I just recently came across Heritage Makers online it's like making a scrap book but you download your own pics and can pick different quotes or poems and back grounds, or just write your own little story ect. They range from small little books to huge books, to calendars, posters, post cards and panel folds. If it's something your husband would like the web address is www.something2remember.com

I know you have probably gotten alot of responses to this question but here is my idea! This is my husbands first fathers day and so I wanted todo something special. I made him a photo book on the Kodak gallery. You can insert your own pictures and words. I just got it about 4 days after I made it so turn around time was great and I couldn't be happier with the book. It really turned out great and I know my husband is going to love it!

I saw a really funny twist on a traditional father's day gift. The website is www.pillowtie.com . Although a necktie is not creative at all these ties are hilarious. They can be worn as a regular necktie, but then in the bottom part of the tie there is a small blow up piece that can be inflated, doubling as a pillow! For that busy dad who gets stuck in boring meetings or on that long bus ride or plane ride home. Funny and inexpensive! I think my husband will be amused!

this year for father's day i am going to try to book my husband a trip w/some friends (and his dad) on a chartered fishing boat. he has always wanted to do that. although our 4 children are all too young to join him, they will give him little gifts (candy, cards, etc.) and take him to lunch on father's day to celebrate :0)in years past, home-made gifts (cards, a special photo framed, etc.) have been big hits --something from the heart. good luck and God bless!

My husband is eternally picky! The only things he collects are things that we can't afford - so... I have no idea what to do. He is in law enforcement so I was thinking maybe I could find a statute of some sort with an officer with a child. I really don't know what to do. I also put together a cookout for both our dads and get the two together - thats always a good time!

My husband is not the Father to mine but is a Father to five girls! He never likes to be fussed over on Father's Day but I do make sure his girls and my kids do something for him. I always make him his favorite meal and surprise him with something unique that he wouldn't suspect! I give him my gifts the day before so that on Father's day he can spend it ith his kids or do whatever he wishes! Last year I bought him and his Dad new fishing poles and they spent the day fishing at his parent's lake with my hubby's daughter's and my two. This year I ordered him a bottle of cologne from Vampfangs.com and it will arrive in a little black coffinshaped box w/ silk roses on the front. I'm odd like that but he won't expect something like that. :)

One year I had my husband's grandma scan me photos of my husband when he was a child and I printed them off and made him a scrapbook (if you're not a scrapper you could put them in a photo album) I then made him a dvd slide show with music and his baby pictures and pictures of him with my boys.
He actually loved it and even teared up...He don't do that very often!!!

Hi A.! Father's Day each year is crazy and trying to come up with creative ideas is hard! My husband (just like my father) will randomly go out and purchase something for himself RIGHT BEFORE Father's Day, his birthday or Christmas! If I can get my act together and get scooting, I think I'm going to have our daughters' (we have two) photo taken and make it into picture frame for his desk at work. We both are horrible about taking photos and bringing them into to work to "show off" the kids. GOOD LUCK and I hope you get a lot of ideas (and thanks for posting this b/c I've gotten a few ideas myself!).

How about a series of pictures of your daughter holding the letters that spell DAD? Go buy two wooden cut-out letters (a D and an A). Take two pics of her holding the D and one of her holding the A. Either photoshop them together or buy a frame with three openings so that she spells DAD.

That's what my daughter is getting DH!

I have gotten my husband a book about his favorite baseball team. Our 9 month old daughter is giving him 2 books about things daddies do with their daughters / kids so he can read them to her.

For mother's day they bought finger paints and we put hand and feet prints in the baby book and made a card. The t-shirt / quilt project is a cute idea.

I always liked gifts that went back to him being a dad. If he wants a new suit or something I save that for our anniversary or birthday or something. In the past I had a picture of my husband and our children blown up and put in a nice frame, painted handprints with a poem about him being a great dad (you can find this kind of thing at Walmart, Meijers, Target, etc). This year I am getting him the "Dangerous Book for Boys" with ideas for him and our boys to do together. One year I got him some camping gear that he wanted to take the kids camping. Whatever you get him should be something that lets him know how you appreciate him as a father.

If your hubby is a computer geek/nerd/fan check out thinkgeek.com (and even if he's not - you might find something). My hubby gave my son chicken pox (he had shingles - the pain first, the rash second, so we didn't know it was shingles until it was too late), and they sell stuffed versions of what varicella looks like, so my son is "returning the favor", and I'm sure my husband will appreciate it. He's also getting a couple of books from there too.

Ok - here's another idea - I know you've gotten so many already. Last year for my birthday, my husband got a day trip to a local spa for me. It was wonderful, and as I was telling him about the day, he said "I know it sounds weird for a guy, but I'd love a men's type facial." He really isn't one to normally do that kind of stuff, so I was surprised he said that. I checked with the spa, and they do have a guys version of the facial with a massage, so that will be his gift this year for Father's Day. I will probably accompany it with some gifts the kids pick for him too, but I think he will be pleasantly surprised. Good luck! I know with all the great ideas you will have something great for him this year!

I recently began working for a Direct Sales Company called Initials, Inc where all of the items in the catalog can be personalized up to 14 characters. They have some AWESOME gift ideas for Dads....Coolers, Golf Towels, Key Rings... The nice thing about the product is that it is unique and personal.

Since I learned early on to "be my own best customer" I am getting my husband a Golf Towel with his name on it and I will get my Father a Key Tag engraved with a message from my kids.

Check out the catalog online, if you would like at

Hope this helps. :)

What I found out with my husband was I would make weekend fishing trips for him with his our family and or we will all go camping, but now he is a grandpa which this year is a special year for him because it's his first grandchild and I'm sure he is going to enjoy teaching another child how to fish and go camping. The reason I told you all that is I found buying gifts for my husband form us and the kids did not make him happy. So find what ever it is your husband likes to do and do it with him and for him he will most likly enjoy that much better. My husband loves racing so two years ago I bought my three kids shirts for the team that he likes. I took them to JC Penny and had their photo taken. Then I painted a picture frame the color of the team. I gave him the pictures for fathers day. He loved it. The picture still hangs over his dresser. You could do the same for your husband. Just dress your daughter in his hobby theme and get her picture taken and put it in a special frame. JC Penny even writes messages on your picture if you want and its pretty in-expensive. Good luck.

Thats what I really like about this site. Check out the mom-owned businesses and see if you can come up with something special/different/personalized. I sell wine with personalized labels on the bottle. You gave me an idea for my husband and father. I edited my ad and mentioned this idea. Not sure if your father /husband enjoys wine, but sounds like a neat idea.

Check it out and let me know if you'd be interested!

Would Dad wear a t-shirt with footprints or hand prints on it? If not, I think that there are places that you might be able to make a cute coffee mug with your dd's prints on it. For Mother's Day one year, I made t-shirts that said "my grandson walks all over me" and put my son's footprints on it for both grandmas. I really don't know if they wear them, but they did love them.
